Can't type in form field

I am having a similar experience to Jes Hall and am unable to fill in forms on 2 .pdfs that definitely have fillable fields:

I just uninstalled Reader and reinstalled Reader 9.1 today; also set PDF/A mode to "never."

Any help out there?

I have this same issue with one of my users. The form definitely has fillable fields, because we transferred the PDF doc to another machine and it works fine. I tried setting the PDF/A mode to never, uninstalled Adobe Pro 8.1.2 from the machine, cleaned the registry out and installed a fresh copy of Reader 9 and updated it for her. Still unable to enter text in the fields. She gets the pink dropdown notice at the top that says to fill out the fields and we can even click the button at the right that highlights the fields. Also, she can select check boxes on the form with no problem, she just can't bring up any text in the field.

The form in question is an application for a Chinese Visa, and as such when you open the PDF we get a warning message about needing the traditional Chinese language pack and the Japanese language pack to display properly.

That's about all the info I can think of. Any ideas how we can remedy this issue?

Edit: Also, when trying to open the PDF with 9 while logged in as the local admin or domain admin account on her machine, Reader errors out and crashes.

I created a fillable form in LiveCycle. When I open the PDF I can't type on the form. What did I do wrong? Thank you.

To all you poor students and anybody who just wants to be able to fill in your forms. First open the form then click on save as text. Next in the box where it says save as type go to that and select all files. Now find the file you just saved and right click it and select open with Word.

There's a way for Reader users to add form fields without purchasing the full Acrobat product. You can download a free 30-day trial version of Acrobat Pro (Windows) from Adobe.com at:

We created our form with professional 8, with 9, no one could type in the form fields. Here it the solution we found and there have been no further issues:

If after opening the form you are unable to type in it, Please take the following steps to adjust your Adobe Acrobat settings.

1. Right click on the opened RFF form and choose page display preferences. It is the very last option on the list.

2. Select Documents on the list that opens. It will be your first option.

3. Toward the bottom of the document window find PDF/A VIEW mode.

4. Use the down arrow on the PDF/A VIEW box and select Never.

5. Click ok.

Now that your setting has been made, you will not need to follow this step again.

Don't know if that will help your issue.

You can Google free pdf tools for some other options. I don't use any of them so I'm hesitant to recommend a particular one.

Im a poor college student. Any other ideas?

The new version (9) has form field ability in the Standard version (you don't have to buy Pro anymore).

I think it's around $300.
