Question

Disable or ignore links within .pdf

This is probably the opposite of what is mostly asked here on links...

I'm reading scientific papers with inline links to the source/reference pages at the end of the document.

When I mark something or copy text, I often end up clicking on a tiny superscript number with one of these links. I feel like it triggers on button release instead of a complete click, too.

It's incredibly annoying, as the scaling changes from 'nicely readable' to 'too big' and I have to find the part where I was again.

Is there a way to shut the links off? I can't edit these .pdfs to remove the links and as they are in-document links, turning off hyperlinks doesn't help at all.

While you can't disable the links without the paid version of Acrobat, here is one thing that may help.

Right-click your toolbar. From the shortcut menu, choose Show Page Navigation Tools and enable Previous View. Repeat for Next View if desired.

A view is the last page and zoom level you have been in and Previous View will take you right back to where you were, so at least you won't have to hunt.

Command + Left Arrow is the keyboard shortcut for Previous View; Command + Right Arrow is the keyboard shortcut for Next View. (Ctrl if you are on Windows.)

Great, thanks, that at least helps with 50% of the annoyance.

I still feel like trudging through a minefield if there's a page that has 70% citation links...

If you only have Reader then you can't disable it, no.
