Disable 'send as a link' attachment

Hello,

Until last week, it was possible to add PDF files directly as attachments to a Microsoft Outlook mail.

Now an additional button has been added where a link is shared and the file is shared through Adobe's cloud service.

Is it possible to turn off the option to send the file as a link (and thus upload it to the cloud) by default? So that all files go directly to Outlook as attachments by default again?

Correct answer S_S

Hi @ezraleo_1913,

Hope you are doing well. Thanks for writing in!

Another method to disable this would be through the registry.

To do so, go to the location - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\FeatureLockDown\cCloud

Create a DWord: bAdobeSendPluginToggle

Value: 1.

This registry key disables the Adobe Send and Track plugin for Outlook, preventing the upload of attachments to Adobe Document Cloud.

You can also control how Outlook behaves with attachments directly. Steps can be found here: https://adobe.ly/4lFMnUI

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Souvik.

It seems every update this reverts back so on the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Pro version 2023.008.

  • Acrobat>Preferences>Email Accounts>Select Default Email Application (Make sure Default is Selected) > Uncheck Always send files as a link.  Quit Adobe and reopen. ** Of note mine was not checked and I had to check it then exit out, restart the program and uncheck it then restart it again.
  • Now, when you click the SHARE button in the top right, hover over the envelope with the paperclip to the right, and it should say, "Send a link OR attach this file to an email".  Use this option to attach the file. (See image below)

Thank you Rob!  I just spent 1 hour trying to fix it to where we can just add attacment and not a cloud link. Your info was the only one that worked!  Why do they do this?

wowowowow.  this is so bad.  I've tried everything above - in acrobat and outlook - and I still can't work out how to send an attachment.  The idea that this is a default is the second most spectacularly awful idea in any application I use (after Microsoft forced top-picks into outlook search on mobile and made it impossible to disable - literally award winning stupidity).  Definitely deserve a medal for this one adobe - you have rendered Acrobat completely unusable

Completely agree. This is very, very amateur!!!!! Stop pushing useless junk and focus on what you do well.

I don't have the Settings option under the Acrobat tab.  How else can I get to these settings?

Start and new email and attach a PDF, the settings option is only in the compose screen

Yep go figure this really bad idea and the tiny "x" which hardly ever works

Getting extra work every day from emails where the link doesnt work, thanks ASdobe and thousands of surveys to help yr company out which I will never have time to complete becuase I cant send a simple email with attachment anymore.

No easy fix on this issue either

This is horrible. How can Adobe decide where a company puts their data ?!

This is an absolute NOGO Adobe and we will now start looking for another software.

NEVER EVER TOUCH THE DATA OF A CUSTOMER UNASKED ADOBE !!!!
I am more than dissapointed by Adobe. I am disgusted by this behahviour and it will have consequences for our company AND Adobe.

this is IT-terrorism

I'm using Thunderbird. No way to get this problem solved without Adobe patching it. Come on you lot, we pay for this.

In Outlook:

file/options/addins - uncheck the adobe cloud link option -- hit ok.

note: I tried this 10 times and didn't work... i got it to work ONLY after temporarily disabling send/receive groups .... then it worked.. remember to re-enable send/receive

why adobe messed with settings that worked for me for a decade is beyond me.

Nope, not working and I sdon't use Outlook I use Thunderbird. Adobe this is outrageous, it's a really easy fix to go back to the ability to send via e mail. I've unchecked the boxes and now if I click on the envelope, nothing happens.

We have to work with this tool. Please fix it

Is there a new fix for this? I am using the updated Adobe, pro and Windows 11 and have had no luck with the suggestions.
