Document could not be printed

Community Beginner ,
Jul 16, 2009 Jul 16, 2009

Unable to print numerous different PDFs from a corporate website. Each file has similar header, images, length, appearance. Opening the files online I receive the message "Insufficient data for an image" but the images do appear after I scroll down a bit. They disappear if I scroll up again.  Try to print and this message appears " Document could not be printed". I have tried saving and reopening in Reader 9.1, also printing to file and printing as an image. Nothing works. I think the two issues are connected.  I have seen similar discussions on this and other forums but they seem to lead nowhere.  Can anyone help please?

Hi all

An update. I have two machines a desktop PC (XP) connected by USB and a laptop (Vista) that is printer accessed by wired networking (802.11b/g (Wi-Fi)).

The Adobe software on the desktop is the latest

The Adobe software on the laptop is not quite up to date.

I can print from the laptop.

So it seems the issue is with the latest Adobe upgrade.

Would there be any opinions on this or will an upgrade be released soon?

Hi,

I also have the same problem. I have Adobe Reader 9.3 on Mac with Snow Loepard. Every PDF document that I try to print on a network printer (and I tried two printers so far) I get the following errors in sequence:

"The document could not be printed."

and then

"There were no pages selected to print."

I removed Adobe Reader completely (deleting all the related files anywhere on my machine using 'find' command) and installed it again, the same problem. I can print PDFs using the OS X's Preview application on the same printers just fine.

I also tried printing on a publicly available printer on a totally different network (outside of our organization) and I still got the exact same errors.

Any updates on this?

Thanks,

Roozbeh

Roozbeh

I installed and used Foxit pdf reader and it all worked. I removed

Foxit and adobe and reinstalled adobe. Alls seems to be OK. The only issue

is the icons in explorer and adobe all look like Foxit PDF reader, not

Adobe.

This same problem is happening with me. It just started today after I upgraded Illustrator to CS4. I save the .ai file as a PDF and try to print from Acrobat 9 Pro. I get the "The document could not be printed" then "There were no pages selected to print". The only workaround I've found is to print to a postscript file, then Distill to a PDF. Then it prints fine but it's a time consuming PITA.     Somebody suggested it was a Acrobat Reader issue. It seems maybe not.

Foxit pdf worked for me. I'm on Vista with adobe 9.2.0.  I think it must be an adobe problem.

Yes, as suggested above, start using foxit for your pdf files.  It's free and better than adobe - and best of all, your files will print.  Go to www.foxitsoftware.com and download foxit reader 3.1.4.  Your life will immediately improve.

Foxit has 2 problems:  1.  It is Windows only, doesn't work with Macs.  2. It doesn't solve the problem. There are many ways to open PDF files, but as the files are created in Acrobat, they should be capable of being opened in Acrobat.

Have same errors and it drove me crazy. I know it's not the printer because I can print other documents as long as it's not PDF. On the Add-Remove programs, Adobe Reader 9 has no option to remove so I re-installed the 9.0 but the problem did not go away. I tried doing System restore to dates prior to the time I got the errors but problem remains. I was tempted to install FOXIT reader but it seems that it comes with a toolbar. Finally, I installed Adobe Reader 9.3 and it worked  . Try it.

In Adobe, I did a "Help/Repair Adobe Reader Installation and also installed Adobe Reader 9.3.  Not sure which fixed my problem, but all is OK now.  Thanks!

Same problem, and despite the misleading error message it does seem to be related to the network printer connection. In the Printers and Faxes panel, the printer is shown as "Unable to connect." Apparently our network people retired an older print server this morning, and forgot to send out a notification.

I just download the latest version 9.3.1 and installed. I've safe booted, rebooted, repaired permissions, repaired Acrobat, etc. but still could not print. After spending two hours to complete a 2 minute job, I finally used Apple's Preview to print the PDF file without problem.

I wish I had another printing program for PDFs. I absolutely do not understand why Adobe has not repaired their Reader. Many people have the identical problem.

I think it is because the PDF files is proteced from being printed. It is common that online PDF files allows you view but not copy or print. Try to check out the properties of the file. If you can download the file, you may print it after unlocking using

PDF Password Remover. Just a possible situation.

The best thing I did was to uninstall Adobe ad now use the Freeware available from Foxit to everything Go to www.foxitsoftware.com and download the pdf reader First button below the 'Help Me Choose button'. Its free (from hassle and bugs and glitches. You might also look at openoffice.org a complete suite to hold-up against Microsoft Office its shareware/freeware constructed by us mere mortals and improved upon by us because Sun Micro Systems actually listen to their consumers. It feels like myPC has been to a rehab facility so unencumbered without Microsoft Office around its neck```````````````````

Im having a similar issue with PDF's that are created by one of our automated systems.  Only the Acrobat 9 station has this issue printing pdf files any previous version is ok.  I updated acrobat and let the user test on it for a day with no success.  I have reinstalled the software and reinstalled all of the updates and it still throws this error.  The user prints to 2 network printers in her dept.  The printers are not the issue because everything else on her pc prints to them just fine as does the other 20 or so people in there.

What i did find though was that when we copied the pdf from the storage system to the users desktop we are now able to print the pdfs with no problems.  From what i can tell our install of Acrobat 9.3.1 has issues with accessing the pdf via the network to print it.

This is an acceptable band-aid for us but i hope that Adobe hurries up and fixes these issues cause its really annoying, especially to a large print shop like where i work at.

Just thought i would throw out my findings and hope that it may help others having the same issues!

This is infuriating:

Me: I need to fill out this PDF form...

Some time later: All done! Time to print!

Adobe Reader: The document could not be printed.

Me: What a cryptic and unhelpful message! I'll try printing as an image.

Adobe Reader: The document could not be printed.

Me: Huh. I'll try printing to a pdf, then open that file in Preview and print from there.

Adobe Reader: Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save.

Me: Sounds good. I'll do that.

Adobe Reader: Data typed into this form will not be saved. Adobe Reader can only save a blank copy of this form.

Me: At a loss for words.

I will be avoiding anything with the name Adobe on it for the foreseeable future.

It is April 15th 2010. Adobe Reader is not working anymore for Mac OS X 10.5.8.I can print pdf files, just with a lp command from a terminal, from the Preview software (Apple original default pdf viewer) and with Skim (a free PDF reader).
The problem is with Adobe Reader, as it has been extensively reported.

I add the letter I tried to submit to help desk.

Ladies and Gentlemen at Adobe.
How are we supposed to have a relationship when you guys are so aloof and unresponsive to the little people out here? Have any of you bothered to read the forums? Why has there been such a poor response from you regarding the issue of A R 9.x and pdf printing? The only thing is a DIY Trouble shooter which a). is time consuming considering most folk that are at the troubleshooting stage are already hot under the collar and b). rather short in the fix department. The only viable solution I have seen on the forums so far that has any merit is uninstalling A R and substituting it with Foxit's Reader. (Nice one! Thats how you woo customers and grow your market share especially in this current ecoclimate!). I know that this message will be read by the guys who are not directly linked to The issues in Reader because I had to use this portal as there is no other way to get a response from the Reader Guys. So.... Please, to YOU reading this get it to the right people and even if its only in the Breakroom, mention to somebody who can, that there are a whole lot of people (not just those who are competent enough to get to a forum to look for help) who are having printer problems that did NOT exist prior to upgrading to A R v9.x and get them to go to the various forums and read whats going on and respond - Please,- even if its to say that there is no solution just show that you know.
                     Thanking you in advance,

Andrew
Normally one very satisfied Adobe Customer.

PS I have copied this message and posted to the forums applicable.

I downloaded Acrobat Adobe Reader 9.3

The only download available for Mac OS X 10.5.8.

It does not work out of the box. Just doesn't print (I am able to print from any other program, same machine, same printer, same drivers)
I spent more than 2 hours trying to update the  Adobe Acrobat Reader version 9.3
No Way! It gives an error (already reported in this forum for version 9.2).

The update could not be completed saying that the AAReader was modified since installation...

I re-installed, without luck.

I am fed up.

I have a AA Reader installed and working in several Linux machines and MSWindows machines.

With my Mac, I have no luck. I won't waste any more time in a lousy coded program.

I will stop using AA Reader in my Mac and post my (and lot of more users' ) problem in every forum I am part of.

thanks for the intended help.

The Adobe Company is silent not giving any support to Apple's users. Is it part of the battle that Apple and Adobe are having in other levels?

I just printed using Reader 9.3.2 with NO problem. My OS10.6.3 (Snow Leopard) Macbook Pro 2.16gHz, Brother MFC-7340 printer.

Suggestions:

1. Remove Reader (trash), download and reinstall. Be sure you have the right version for your Mac i.e, Intel or PowerPC.

2. Be sure you have the latest printer drivers from your printer manufacturer.

3. Repair permissions with Disk Utility or shareware Onyx.

4. Safeboot (hold shift key down while restarting).

5. Restart the normal way (without holding shift key).

These routine maintenace actions may help.
