How do I copy text on the new version of reader?

On the old version, I had menus and could select snapshot or use the select tool. On this new version, I have almost no options, it seems. right-clicking doesn't bring up any options other than to print and save, neither of which is helpful.

That does not look like Adobe/Acrobat Reader at all!

Is that a local or online PDF?  If online, in what browser?

Could it be that this is the Windows 8.x PDF viewer?

You are correct. It is the Windows 8 Reader. It was the only thing on the new computer that said "Reader" and it opened the pdfs, and I (foolishly) assumed it was the new "look" of Adobe Reader. Your comment made me go out to the Adobe website, and I actually just downloaded the new version of Adobe Reader. Turns out it was not pre-loaded on this computer. It does look different, but I have my menus back.

    Thanks, all.

This is not the original text document, but it still shows my options.

This second screen shot is what options I get when I right-click:

And if snapshot isn't available, then it could be that security is set to keep you from copying content. You can check that in File>Properties>Security>Document restrictions.

It isn't a scanned image and I don't have a menu to choose from. On the old version of Reader, I do have the menu and can copy. I put the file on a flash drive and used a friend's machine, which has the old version of reader. I had no problem copying the text I wanted. I just cannot do it with this new version. No menus. It's pretty useless.

Okay. Seems we've misunderstood the problem.

With Reader open, try hitting your F9 key to see if the menus show up. If you can select the text, Ctrl+C also should work.

I can still do all that with Acrobat Reader DC on Windows.

    What is your operating system?

Is that PDF you cannot copy from a text document, or a scanned image?
