This "Ask AI Assistant" box has started popping up at the bottom of the window when viewing a PDF. It has an option to "hide for this session" but how do I turn off permanently? It's just another annoying dialog box filling up my viewing screen
Hi All,
Adding to the comments by ReportsReportsReports, the query bar can be disabled by going to the Preferences > Generative AI > uncheck the option "Show AI query bar on document" > Restart Acrobat (screenshot attached).
Hope this helps.

Souvik.
Hi @edie_9775,
Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble with disabling GenAI features on Acrobat.
I will share the feedback with the team around the preferences.
In the meantime, you can try using the registry codes as shared below:
Go to Start > Registry Editor > go to location: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\FeatureLockDown
create new Dword: bEnableGentech
value: 0
Note: Please ensure Acrobat is closed while you perform this.

Yes! I want to disable all AI features on my Acrobat Pro. When I open a PDF the "Ask AI Assistant" blocks accessibility/visibility to part of my file. I have "disabled" AI under preferences but that dialog box keeps reappearing.

Hi,
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Could you share the version of Acrobat that you are using? (Help -> About)
Also did you relaunch app after disabling the pref?
Thanks,
Charu Karwa

This is an intrusive "feature" that nobody asked for. I'm tired of paying for broken and poorly designed apps. It would be nice to read and edit my documents without that loud, obnoxious button obscuring the pages.

I am on version 2024.004.20243 64 bit. I also cannot get rid of the ask AI assistant box permanently I have to close it for every single document and it's very frustrating because I disabled all AI features on my profile

The current version I have is 24 4 20272 0 and yes, I relaunched after disabling the pref, it didn't seem to make any difference. The AI box is still at the bottom of my doccuments, obscuring my view.
Thanks - Diana

I also have the same problem. As someone mentioned below this is intrusive! Adjusting preferences does not make it go away. I am unable to view the bottom of my pdf documents because of the stupid Ask AI Assistant box, which I have absolutely no use for.

Hi,
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Could you please follow the steps below:
1. Update to the latest Acrobat version (Help -> Check for updates)
2. Turn off the Gen AI preference (Preferences -> Generative AI -> Uncheck the checkbox)
3. Try after re-launching again
Let me know of this resolves your issue.
Thanks,
Charu Karwa

I have had this feature unselected for at least a month or more. I can never get that "Ask AI assistant" box to go away - it is in the way of the scroll bar at the bottom and gets in the way I have to close it every time "hide for this document" how can I make it permanently go away?

I can't get rid of the box either, and it blocks my view of information I'm trying to read. Did they ever give you the solution?
It's frustrating because I'm paying for the product, but then I'm still receiving what is essentially an advertisement for a feature I don't need.

No fix as of yet. I did all the things they suggested and it still keeps showing up when I open a PDF, and blocks whatever is behind it. So frustrating and unprofessional on their part to force this crap on us.

Hi all,
This "feature" was making it impossible for me to edit the bottom portion of a document... I followed all the recommendations here and nothing worked, and then I figured out I needed to uncheck one additional box under Preferences-->Generative AI--> Generative AI features in Acrobat . . . There was an additional checkbox for "Show AI Summary Bar on top of the document". After I unchecked that option, and closed and reopened Adobe, I could move my mouse over the bottom of the doc without triggering the AI "feature". It was like it was bypassing the unchecked "Enable generative AI feature in Acrobat" option.
I am on Win11, and my UI is different, but I hope this helps.

Hi Souvik,
This does not work. Once you close down and then re-start the app the AI re-enables itself. I don't want or need AI or all the suggestions and summaries. Screenshoot of my updated version is below:

This seems to have worked for me for now! I tried everything else and nothing changed it. So far, no generative AI pop up box when I opened 2 different files.... fingers crossed.

Hi Souvik,
I am having the same issue with trying to disable AI Assistant. Acrobat program is closed, but I am not able to create new Dword at the location you provided.
When viewing permissions for ...DC/FeatureLockDown, I see ...
Acess is denied if I try to apply Full Control. Thoughts on what to try next?
I am on Windows 11 using Acrobat version below ...

Surely you must know by now that this does not work. Your (Adobe) unwanted AI features will be the death of Acrobat.

Does anyone here know of a good Adobe alternative? Asking for a "friend".....

Some use Foxit and say it is alright, I have not used it but if these kinds of things persist and are not resolved then I will gladly leave Adobe.

I too have followed the steps to turn off "Enable generative AI features in Acrobat" but that has no effect on the AI tools. The very large button "Ask AI Assistant" is persistent and not removable. Sometimes the AI box pops up on its own as well (see attached screenshot), further blocking the workspace until I close it. This is in addition to any AI pop-ups on the bottom of the screen. When I come in to Acrobat to work, I don't want to have to repeatedly stop these unwanted AI actions... AI is supposed to be helpful, not oppressive! 🙂
