Question

I can't open any PDF's after Window update

After an overnight update I can't open any .pdf files on my computer.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader DC several times and run your 'cleaner' also.  I noticed this when I couldn't open a newsletter that comes every two weeks in my email that I've never had any trouble with before.  Then I tried some other pdf files that I had pinned to my desktop and they wouldn't open either.  I've done everything I can find in your forums and nothing has helped.  Please help!

Hi Wotoejoe,

As per the issue description mentioned above, you are unable to open any pdf file after windows updates, is that correct?

Could you let us know dot version of Reader and the operating system installed on the machine? You may refer to the steps given in this link on how to check the version: Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Is there any error message when trying to open pdfs?

Also, could you try following troubleshooting steps:

1- Reboot the machine if you haven't already and check if that helps.

2- Launch Reader as an administrator - Run an Adobe program as administrator | Windows 7, Vista

3- Run Reader in compatibility mode - (if using Windows 10) - https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/15078/windows-make-older-programs-compatible

Thanks,

Shivam

Version of Acrobat Reader is 2018.011.20040 running on Windows 10.

I have NOT been able to open Acrobat from the shortcut icon on my desktop, even with all the previous efforts.  NO error messages, it will just not open, nor will it open any .pdf files.

OK,  I have rebooted my computer several times.  No help.

By running the Acrobat Reader as Administrator and going through all the steps listed, I am able to open the current .pdf files on my computer from there.  But with any .pdf files that I receive via Live Mail I must send them to my Desktop as a shortcut before I can open them.  Not sure about .pdf's from my other email accounts.  This could become very aggravating.  I still don't understand because just a couple of days ago I was able to just open any/all of the .pdf files and Adobe Reader by just clicking on the icon.  ???

Hi Twotoejoe,

Could you try opening pdfs from other email accounts and check if that works? Also, let us know if you are getting any error message when trying to open pdfs received from live mail (when opening directly from live mail, not by sending them to the desktop as a shortcut)?

Thanks,

Shivam
