My Adobe Acrobat Reader does not work after installing macOS Catalina on my MacBook Air. Is there any Adobe Acrobat Reader (free of charge) which is compatible with macOS Catalina?

    Hi,

We have released Adobe Acrobat Reader DC version 19.021.20047 today. This version is compatible on macOS Catalina. For more information see the release notes here: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/release-note/release-notes-acrobat-reader.html

If you already have Adobe Acrobat Reader DC on your system, just update it and it should continue to work when you upgrade OS to macOS Catalina. For fresh installs, you can go to https://get.adobe.com/reader

Let me know if it helps.

    Thanks,

    Karan

    Hi,

Here are few more queries that would help us find the issue:

    • Does the issue occur with all the images in the attached file?
    • Does the issue occur with other image containing files as well or just with this one?
    • Is there any error prompt appearing when the file is first opened? If yes, please attach its screenshot.
    • Can you provide us with process sample from the activity monitor for Acrobat Reader?

    Thanks,

    Anushka.

I recently updated to MacOS Catalina, then downloaded the latest (5/18/2020) acrobat reader (2020.009.20063).  The pdf files that used to render fine now do not show most images--instead it shows dark grey rectangles.  MacOS Preview shows the files just fine.  Also, it looks like the rectangles are on the back layer, as it shows the text on top of it just fine.

Is there a reason these images are not rendering on Catalina with the latest (2020.009.20063) acrobat reader?

Thanks for reaching out to us. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Can you share a sample PDF file to investigate the issue?

Also please share the screenshot of error.

I have a similar problem with Catalina...I have Adobe CC Enterprise (v. 4.9.0.504) and updated to Catalina. Now my Adobe Acrobat Pro is not working. There is a line through the app showing it will not work. I launch the Adobe CC software updater to check for updates and it tells me Acrobat Pro is up to date and does not let me download again. I can not launch it, uninstall it or update. The local uninstaller in the Adobe Acrobat Pro folder will not work. I am afraid to use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to uninstall all of Adobe CC as I do not want to lose my Adobe Bridge files, metadata, prefs, etc. I tried to use the cc cleaner tool to only uninstall Acrobat Pro. The cc cleaner tool did not list the Acrobat Pro as being installed or I would have just uninstalled that app then reinstalled. With the cc cleaner tool, I did uninstall the core-sync tool, rebooted and opened cc. Did not update anything with Acrobat Pro. Manually running software updates via cc does not change Acrobat Pro. Do I keep working with the cc cleaner tool or xml file maybe? I have not tried running the local Adobe CC Uninstaller yet. - Thxs.

What is the version of Acrobat on your machine. You can check the version of Acrobat Application in /Applications/Adobe Acrobat DC/ folder.

You can also try to manually download and install the cumulative Patch from here - https://ardownload2.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/mac/AcrobatDC/1902120049/AcrobatDCUpd1902120049.dmg

    (Reference- https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/continuous/dccontinuousoct2019qfe.html#dccontinuousocttwentynineteenqfe)

Apply the above patch and let us know if you are facing any issues.

    Thanks,

    Karan

Hi Karan! I downloaded this but while installing the cumulative patch I have to 'select the Adobe Acrobat Reader you want to update'. All of my versions are greyed out so I can't select anything. HELP!!

The CC app window shows no update, only the Open button. (Camera Raw, e.g., does show Update instead of Open for its button) When I open Acrobat DC it shows the error, as described in my first post.

... and when I click "try again" the same popup comes back. Only option is to quit. App will not let me past this step, while all of my other CC apps work fine.

Currently no version is supported macOS 10.15.
Supported versions will be updated soon.

It is Acrobat Reader DC that is expected to work to some extent now.
