Even though I clicked on All or Current Page or selected a specific page, after clicking the print button I get a dialog box that says "Document could not be printed." followed by a second dialog box that says "No pages selected to print." Is there some secret way to select pages that I'm not aware of? I'm using Reader X 10.1.7

Can you provide us some more details like:
1. OS you are using?
2. Are you able to print with the other applications on your system?
3. Is the issue file specific or with all pdf's on your computer?
4. Printer model you are using?
5. Were you facing similar issues with the previous versions of Reader?

I have the same problem. I'm using Windows 7, I have no problem printing from any other applications. I am unable to print from Adobe Reader to any other printer on my network. I am unable to print ANY *.pdf document using Adobe Reader. I am using a Brother MCF8910DW printer. No, I never had a similar issue with any previous versions of Reader.

This can happen in following scenarios.
1) if the connection to the printer you are trying to print to is not established.
2) if the PDF is badly made or does not confirm to pdf standards.
3) if you are printing to a plotter then the workaround is to uncheck the auto-rotate setting in plotter preferences directly.

I have the same problem and my printer connection is FIRMLY ESTABLISHED and working with no issues except for printing with Adobe Reader. This problem occurs with ALL *.pdf files on my network, even though they conFORMED (spell check, please?) to *.pdf standards. I am not printing to a plotter but to a Brother MFC8910DW which until two days ago had no problems whatsoever printing from Adobe Reader. It works fine in every other application.
This is obviously not the fault of my printer, my operating system, my printer drivers, any other application running on my system, and apparently not the problem of myself as user.
Would someone at Adobe please resolve this problem?

Could you please try the workaround mentioned at http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21614877 and let us know if that resolves the problem?

Atul Agarwal, the URL you gave above is a link to IBM. I'm not sure why they'd have the solution and not Adobe. Please tell me you're in the US and not with an Indian call center.
In any case, clicking the IBM link takes you the equivalent of an Error 404 page, though on IBM's site. These issues are being reported everywhere. And they go back several versions of Reader. I'm on a Mac running OSX 10.9.3 with Adobe Reader 11.0.07. There's no "repair installation" option on the Mac. I've deleted it, downloaded it fresh from Adobe and reinstalled it. No luck. Any other thoughts?
Thank you.

I had the same problem with 2 separate files. on file 1, I could print page 1 but not page 54 until I placed into Indesign doc and printed from there.
File 2 was a one page doc and same error to any printer I tried until I went to preferences and disabled JavaScript.
I just updated Java through software update yesterday.

I figured it out. Go to finder > right click on doc > click on "open with" > select preview.app > below that selct apply to all files like this. You have now changed your default reader to Preview and you wont have to deal with this any more. Thats what I did.

I had the same problem. I ended up saving the file as a reduced sized *.pdf and it seemed to fix it. Work around for now, simply saveas.

Except that Adobe Reader does not have that option. Sounds like you're talking about Acrobat.

Correct, I didn't notice this was about reader. Thanks for the correction.

I encountered this problem as well.
(win8 64 bit, acro reader X, all printers including print to file)
after a complete reinstall then installation of full adobe suite, I used an external application to clear the program cache. While the adobe update tool appears to be generating the problem, this fixed it. If you need an application, I use CCleaner (just select everything with the name Adobe on it and click clean)

While I hold a high esteem for CCleaner, I don't think it can fix Adobe Reader printer problems.
What is "program cache", b.t.w.?

Adobe reader, just like your internet browser and certian other programs, stores data on your computer that is not necessary to run the program, but is meant to improve your experience (saving settings, remembering patterns, keeping a list of recently opened files, etc...)
Just as with other programs, if corrupted data becomes stored in the cache, it has the possibility to cause problems. clearing the cache will remove the corrupted data and allow the program to run "like new"

I just experienced this problem on Win7x64 Enterprise with Adobe Reader X. I could not find a solution anywhere on the Internet. I uninstalled Reader X and installed Reader XI, and the problem went away.
FYI, since I was rebooting, I also installed MSKB 2896881 to resolve a recurring printer driver registry entry problem, but I'm pretty sure that was not related to the resolution (since the Adobe problem occurs on both PC's and Mac's).

Two things you can try on Windows: Adobe Reader | Edit | Preferences
