Open PDF from SharePoint 2016. We're sorry we couldn't find a program to open this document.

Hi everyone,

 

Whenever I right-click on a PDF file in a document library in our SharePoint 2016 farm, and click on "Open in Adobe Acrobat or Reader X", I get the error message "We're sorry we couldn't find a program to open this document". I'm trying to open the PDF file in my locally installed Adobe application. I do not want to open it in a new tab in the browser.

 

I tried this with different PDF files, in different document libraries, in different SharePoint site collections. I'm working on a Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit version 1909. I've tried this with Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro. Both we're set as the default program for PDF files when they were installed seperately.

 

I'm getting this message on Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Opera. However, it does work when I'm using Internet Explorer. Is this because there is a 32-bit add-on for Adobe Acrobat SharePoint OpenDocuments Component, but not a 64-bit version of the same add-on?
