Painfully Slow Opening PDF

Opening PDFs is painfully slow. I already did the recommendation in the thread Reader DC opening slow after latest update and it did improve the responses. However, I have to have Enable Protected Mode at startup (Preview) unchecked in order for my Tic, Tie Calculate extension/software to recognize the registration.
