Problems with opening of heic files

Hello,

I've come across a problem while opening heic files from IPhone. The thing is, that this format is not supported by Adobe Reader but the program is constantly trying to open it, and error occurs. I tried to dismiss this type of files from opening via applications settings, but there is no even such format, so I can't even mark heic file as an exception. How can I finally prevent opening of file by Acrobat Reader? I tried to delete program and set again but it didn't help.

Hi,

Did you tried opening your files with some other app which supports them? You can right click on your file, select 'Open with' and them proceed with app of your choice and make that the default choice.

Thanks,

Charu Karwa

Hi @liudmila_mila:

  1. Mac or Windows? What version?
  2. What application would you like the HEIC file to open on your computer?
  3. And when I drag a photo out of Photos to my desktop (macOS Sonoma 14.7.1), it converts to a jpeg. So again, what is your exact process, getting the file from your iPhone to your computer? And I assume you are double-clicking the file and that's what initiates Adobe Reader?

Details help us help you faster.

I have windows 11. And i have  CopyTrans HEIC application and  HEIF Image Extensions  installed which can work with files like that. But despite all the heic files are being opened by Adobe Reader by default. I try to work on that via application settings, but i can’t choose heic files an exception for Adobe Reader (see my enclosed printscreen in the first post).

Right click one of these files. Select Open With and then the app you want to use, and tick the box to make it the default app for this file type.

Hi @liudmila_mila:

Can you tell us what you mean by Adobe Reader is constantly trying to open HEIC files on your phone? What the exact scenario that is initiating the process? I have an iPhone with Reader installed and I've never been in this situation.

Problem occurs on a computer, not on a phone. I want to view heic file on a computer and Adobe Reader tries to open it though it doesn’t support this type of files
