Show FULL file name on tabs

Is there a way to show the full file name on tabs?

I often need to have 5-10 tabs open, all file names need to start with the same address, and I need to frequently flip back and forth between them.

I can't see the latter half of the file names so waste too much time looking for the right tab

Include me in this request. I don't use tabs and often flip back and forth between PDFs to check 1) before changes, and 2) after changes. In the old days, we used to do this with 11x17 outputs for creative elements.

Now, on a Mac, I use a command-tilde to cycle through the open PDFs at the same zoom level. It's a quick way to see if anything jumps around. The new way Acrobat displays PDFs on screen is to always force the document title into a very narrow tab, even though PDFs are in their own window.

Having this issue as well on a post from 2023 and now it's 2025 and still this has not been addressed?!?  Will try reverting back to older version as one comment mentions below, however quite dissappointing that the latest version does not provide a resolution and instead perpetuates wasting peoples time and money.

solution for this is to install Foxit PDF Reader

Update with latest Acrobat Reader 2023.008:

  • Go to the three-bar menu in the top left corner of the window
  • Click on Preferences near the bottom... (or Ctrl-K apparently)
  • Choose Documents from Categories on the left (second item)
  • Now the checkbox for displaying filenames in tabs is the fifth option from the top

Mine is the fourth option from the top and it doesn't work. I'm sick of wasting time trying to solve this issue.

This is a really frustrating problem.  Even mouseover with full filename would help (like firefox), but it doesn't seem to work.

Same issue, googled and this is the first link, without any solution 😞

Tried GPT and this is what was suggested and it solved the issue. Here are the steps

To display the filename instead of the document title on tabs in Adobe Acrobat, follow these steps:

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat.
  2. Go to Edit.
  3. Select Preferences.
  4. Choose Documents.
  5. Under Open Settings, click Always Use Filename As Document Title.

This setting will ensure that the filename appears in the tab, making it easier to differentiate between multiple open documents with the same title but different names.

I have no Edit option.

It is under the normal preferences panel which is under Acrobat on the Mac menu bar.

Constantly hovering over tabs isn't a solution.

I don't have a solution but I wanted to make sure you know that you can see the full name by hovering over the tab.

That only works part of the time, and I shouldn't have to take that extra step. this should be an option to change to full name.

Hovering does not work.  I want new Adobe Acrobat to look like the old, see picture.
