The "Fill and sign" tool is crashing Adobe Acrobat reader

Explorer ,
Jul 17, 2024 Jul 17, 2024

Opening any PDF > Click "Fill and sign" tool from the menu > The app crashes.

I've read all possible solutions in this site and none of them worked, including reseting my preferences and creating a new Windows user.

Hi Kobydo2,

Thank you for reaching out and reporting this.

As the application crashes when using the Fill & Sign tool, try the troubleshooting steps suggested here: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-crashes-on-windows-os.html

If the issue still occurs, please share the following details for further investigation:

- Does the crash occur with a specific file or any file you use?

- Share the Acrobat or Reader version currently in use.

- Share the OS version on the machine.

- Share the crash logs using the steps suggested here: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/collect-logs-crash-freeze.html.

Let us know if you need any help.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Hi Meenakshi,

I am having the same problem. The crash occurs with different files. The crashes happened before and after I updated Adobe this morning (7/17). No error messages appear. I tried each troubleshooting step and none resolved the issue.

I am using Acrobat Pro.

Other than sharing the crash report, is there anything else that can be done to resolve this? Thank you for your help.

Hi @Meenakshi Negi ,

The crash happens all the time and in all files.

I've already done all the steps in the article but to no avail.

The Acrobat version is: 2024.002.200895 64 bit.

The OS is: Windows 11, Acer Nitro laptop.

There's no crash message and I was unable to collect the crash report, it's too complicated and involvs editing the registry.

Hi @Meenakshi Negi

Thank you for your reply.

I've installed the latest version but the problem persists. The program crashes as soon as I click "Fill & Sign".

Koby.

Same problem here. This is an Adobe problem, not a user problem. Please can you guys wake up and smell the roses, there is an issue here that needs resolving.

@Stephen37266012jrg1 Whenever I use an Adobe tool, I know that there's no one to talk to if there are issues. This is the 1st post I've made in their forums and I have zero expectations. I've told my clients not to use PDFs.

https://www.reddit.com/user/TinHammer/

Found a fix: Needed to delete the following 3 files:

%appdata%\Adobe\Acrobat\DC\Security\acrobat_fss_signature_initials

%appdata%\Adobe\Acrobat\DC\Security\acrobat_fss_signature_initialsi

%appdata%\Adobe\Acrobat\DC\Security\acrobat_fss_signature_initialsk

Then it worked for me.

Thank you. Deleting those 3 files worked... finally. I have been pulling my hair out trying to find a solution, no thanks to Adobe. They have been useless this entire process.

I was having the same issue where clicking either the "fill inn form fields" tool or the "add your signature" tool would cause Acrobat Reader to crash with no dialog, no logs, NOTHING.  I follow all the "advice" from Adobe above and it was useless.

Deleting these three files fixed the problem - thank you Jihwa!

Adobe support were useless as always, their one reply in this thread was your typical "try turning it off and on again" garbage without making ANY attempt to even understand the issue.  Why do we continue to pay this ridiculous leech of a company thousands of dollars a year for products that don't work and come with non-existent support?
