Trouble uninstalling True Key that Adobe installed without asking me.

Hi, Newest Acrobat installed 2 programs that I didn't ask for or want.  I got McAfee out.  (Already have Norton.)  I STARTED to take out True Key, but it asked me to close my browser.  I couldn't close it right away since I was uploading something.  When that finished, I could no longer find the uninstall window.  Later it popped up again, I went through the bit of closing the browser again, and then could not find the popup again.  Any ideas?

Actually, since you mentioned it I did see that this "True Key" app is being bundled with the free Adobe Flash Player (I Don't Want True Key or anything else. Just Flash, please.), and there's even a screenshot of how it looks like, where you can clearly see that it's possible to opt-out of it.

However, even if you did agree to install it along with Reader there should be a way of uninstalling it, just like any other application.

At least we now know it did come from Adobe, and isn't some piece of malware...

First of all Adobe I don't like your Flash Player or any of your other apps.  I think it is BS that you force other websites to use your lousy applications.  My stock agency happens to be one of them.  I don't appreciate you clowns installing another program with Flash Player.  Mainly True Key which is from McAfee and not even you idiots.  Don't think you are above the law either.  I saw NO indication of you sorry True Key install to opt out of either.

    Hi.

This morning, I was redirected to install a new flash player. As I did last week, I went to the adobe website and downloaded the file.

Last week, it wanted to include Chrome. This morning, the splash screen that usually offers an opt-out, was giving an "ABOUT: " section.  The only clickable button was to download, after selecting your software and platform.  I was FORCED, in no uncertain terms, to download McAfee and True Key, without permission, and could not stop it.

Once installed, I was able to remove McAfee but not True Key. It is, in fact, uninstallable, undeletable, bloatware, virus garbage.

Can get rid of this. Thanks Adobe. Thanks McAfee. You've gone from software companies to bloatware hackers. Unimpressed.

I have been having the same problem and just got off the phone from McAfee support who was able to help me remove True Key.

They directed me to c:\Program Files\True Key

Under the True Key directory there is a long file name (I should have taken a screen shot but did not) that contains "uninstall.exe" as part of the file name.

I ran this file and it removed True Key.

But why not just uninstall the proper way? I just don't understand why anyone would use a third party uninstaller.

DrowningnotWaving had the correct answer for me: Go to Control Panel, Click, Uninstall a Program, Click McAfee LiveSafe internet security, Click, Uninstall/Change, When it appears, Check the TrueKey box, Click Remove, then when directed, Restart your machine and that should fix the problem.

Thank you so much! Worked perfectly.

I did not find any area in the install screen for Flash Player where I could decline either True Key or McAfee.  I consider this practice to be an invasion of privacy if not an act of installing spyware for whatever purpose.  I will NEVER allow these "bloatware-spyware" programs to remain on my computer and I hope you will "take the hint" and allow those who just want Flash Player to EASILY decline your spyware addons, not hidden in some small print corner where it can be easily overlooked.

I chatted with one of your tech people and he wanted to take over my computer for some unknown length of time, possibly installing still more spyware.  I just used Revo Uninstall and it's gone, with all the hundreds of parts that were sticking in every corner of my operating system!

Do you guys know anything about spyware and ransomware?   Have you been hearing the news? Today about Apple getting randomwared for thousands of iPhones?

Please wake up and help your clients rather than try to trick them!

    Thanks.

These tech people - with whom you chatted - how did you contact them?

Old PC laptop, Windows10.  Never use McAfee products.

Downloaded Adobe update at insistence of government website, got stuck with TrueKey, it did not appear in "Uninstall Programs" list.  So I googled how to uninstall it, and got offer from "TrueKey security" (or similar) of assistance by chat or phone.  Chose chat, got Indian person, got transferred to second Indian person, who immediately suggested taking control of my computer "to help you".  Noticed his URL was neither Intel nor McAfee, but "truekey.mcaffee.com".

    Anyone find this suspicious?

Ran C:\Programs\Intel security\TrueKey.exe, rebooted, still found McAfee TrueKey Helper in TaskManager processes.  ControlPanel>UninstallPrograms - Intel Security TrueKey is still there!  (Nothing under McAfee.)

Uninstalled TrueKey, got popup from BrainSoft Edge "Want to keep using this app to open?" (side-stepped it), and from TrueKey "Reboot to finish uninstall".  Rebooted.  Only suspicious process is "Intel security management".  Uninstall shows "Intel Management Engine Components".  Command window <cd \>, <dir *truekey* /s> shows nothing.

    Maybe it's gone?

The device manager uninstall method did not work for me.

Using file manager, I found an uninstall.exe in program files/intel/true key that did work -- at least it removed its folder and the device manager entry.

Hello everyone, I just solved this problem with the help of a Macfee staff from India by call. He asked me to enter this website: www.mcaf.ee/mcpr  then MCPR.exe would be download. install it. It will remove all macfee products in your computer. Because I only had this TrueKey to be removed, it worked out perfectly for me.

You advertise a virus, pal. You don't even know that .ee domains is for Estonia not India.

Although I have Adobe CC and Mcafee on a new laptop for a month I had not encountered True Key until this morning when it was installed on my laptop after a reboot.  I might add I had no choice, it simply showed up with a long delay on startup and the info on the screen said it was part of an Adobe install.  What a pain, all of my saved passwords are now gone.  How arrogant of Adobe to shove this down the throat of their subscribers.
