Question

Unable to Enter Information in any Fillable Forms With Acrobat Reader DC

Whenever I access/open any PDF document with fillable fields using Acrobat Reader DC. the document opens and the following pop-up appears:

Acrobat Reader

This document enabled extended features in Adobe Acrobat Reader.  The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact the author for the original version of this document.

Acrobat Reader DC, version 2018.011.20038 is currently installed on the PC.

I did not experience this problem prior to an automatic update to Acrobat Reader DC about 6 to 12 months ago.  I have recently uninstalled and reinstalled three times but the problem persists. I am able to open and enter information in the fillable fields if I open PDF documents with Google Chrome, as long as i am not using an Acrobat Reader extension.

If I go to the IRS.gov website and click on Form 1040, the form opens and the window show above immediately pops up.  If I got to the IRS.gov website, right click on the form and select "save target as" and open the form later using Acrobat Reader, the form opens and the window show above immediately pops up.  I have no problem doing either if I use Google Chrome without an Acrobat Reader extension.

Since I am going to the IRS website, I should be accessing an original version of the document which has not been changed since it was created.

At this point I am unable to enter information in fillable fields in any PDF documents (new or saved) using Acrobat Reader DC.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I tried clicking the link and then clicking the Download button and also your method of right-click to save. Either way I have downloaded f1040.pdf. I can fill out the fields with Reader DC. Please confirm that the file you are downloading is actually f1040.pdf. That's the first thing to look at.

Hi Gregoryb,

We did try to replicate the same at our end. However, the Form 1040 opened without any issues.

Please try once to download the PDF on your machine and then try it to open in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.

Try once to repair the installation. Launch the application and go to Help > Repair Installation.

If that does not help, run the cleaner tool Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs and reboot the machine.

Then try to install the application from here Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Make sure that you have installed Reader DC on compatible OS version.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Meenakshi

Thanks for the responses!

I have downloaded numerous PDF fillable Forms from different sources (including several from the IRS.gov website) and always receive the same Pop-up window as mentioned earlier when I open the forms with Acrobat Reader.  I never had this problem with earlier versions of Acrobat Reader on this PC. I am able to download, save and enter information in the forms using the same version of Acrobat Reader on other Windows 10 devices connected to the local network.

I am running Windows 10 Home; Version 1709; Build 16299.309; with Acrobat Reader DC Version 2018.011.20038.

As suggested, I launched Acrobat Reader, went to Help > Repair Installation and that did not help.  So I downloaded the Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs, ran the cleaner tool (which uninstalled the current copy of Acrobat Reader), and rebooted the machine.

I then installed Acrobat Reader DC from the location specified in Meenakshi's reply (Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution).

I went to the IRS.gov website, downloaded f1040f.pdf and the same Pop-up window mentioned in my earlier post appeared stating that "The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available".   I tried other forms with the same results.

Any thoughts, ideas, recommendations would be much appreciated.

How did you download the file, exactly? Did you first open it in your browser window (using a browser PDF plugin) and then save it, or did you save it directly to your computer, without opening it first?
