Question

When my pdfs open, the windows extend outside my computer screen

My pdf windows with parts outside the screen, so like I can't see the minimise, maximise, close tabs; I also can't see the File, Edit, View, Window.... tabs. I can still access the tabs with the keyboard but I would like the window to open so I don't have to resize the windows all the time. I tried looking through the options in edit>perferences but can't find the related option. Is there a way make it so that the windows open inside the screen?

It's 2024 and we STILL have problems with Adobe Acrobat Reader and PDF files opening too wide for the sceen or current monitor, even if the preferences have been changed to work not just for the current document. It's exhausting.

It could be the individual PDF's view settings or simply the fact that Windows remembers Reader at that size and position.

Open Reader without a PDF, just be choosing Adobe Reader from the Start Menu. Does it open too big? If so, resize it to the size you want (drag the corner you can see).

If it DIDN'T open too large, download this PDF https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf  and try opening it in Reader. Is THAT partially off screen?

If yes, then please reply with your screen resolution from Control Panel.

If the PDF is NOT too big, try opening the one that was partially off screen. If IT is too big, then the problem is likely in that PDF's view settings. See if you can change them on the View tab of Document Properties (CTRL+D).

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried your document and it was fine. But is there a way to change some setting to globally open all pdfs within the screen? Thanks in advance

Excellent! So hopefully we can tame that unruly one.

Open Reader's preferences, which, if I recall, is a command under the Edit menu on Windows. In the Page Display area set Page Layout and Zoom from Automatic to something else. You might want to experiment with a few settings, but I suggest starting with Single Page under Page Layout and Fit Width or Fit Page in the Zoom box. Click OK, close Reader.

Try opening that one document again. Hopefully those changes will keep it inline.
