All text missing on Android

New Here ,
Dec 01, 2021 Dec 01, 2021

Hi, I have a PDF document that is missing all text when opened in Adobe Acrobat for Android (current available version 21.10.0.19961). However some other Android applications (e.g. Foxit PDF Editor, Disc Google, OneDrive PDF Viewer, Dropbox PDF Viewer, All PDF Viewer) display it fine.

The same applies for other Android devices and even Adobe Acrobat for iPhone, which makes me think of it like of a mobile Acrobat issue.

Adobe Acrobat X for Windows displays it also fine, as well as Adobe Reader DC 2021.

The respective document is attached. Could you please tell me what is wrong here and if you are possibly able to fix this issue soon?

It may be possible that because this PDF claims compliance with the PDF/A standard it initially opens up in read-only mode to prevent modifications. If that is the case with the Android device that you get this issue, make sure that you're signed in with your AdobeID which will allow editing of the PDF when the Acrobat premium editing features are unlocked.

This is not the case. I do not want to edit the PDF, I need the glyphs to be displayed as they are all gone.

Just to be sure I tried removing the PDF/A compliance to get plain PDF and the result is still the same - no glyphs displayed.

Hi, although Harsh just confirmed this is happening to the other users too, I provide you with the requested details, should they be of any help.

I can observe the issue on following devices:

  • Xiaomi Mi A1 (Android 9)
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab A (Android 10)
  • Motorola G8 Power (Android 11)
  • iPad Pro 11 (iPadOS 15.1)

The reported behavior can be seen at attached screenshots.

Now that you shared this, I am thinking if this has anything to do with disabling MiUi optimization.

Again, I am just guessing, but see the discussion below in which users of Whatsapp were reporting not being able to open PDFs from the Whatsapp mobile app and Adobe Acrobat Reader mobile app :

Thank you for your suggestion, but I was not able to locate MiUI settings anywhere in Xiaomi phone settings, even in developer setting and using the search bar. Plus AFAIK the MiUI interface is only used on Xiaomi family devices but the issue occurs on Samsung and Motorola too.

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

Is this an issue with a particular PDF file or all the PDFs? Please try with different PDF and check.

A similar issue got fixed some time ago by our engineering team for iOS platform. Would you mind sharing the OS and the Acrobat Mobile app version details you are using? To check the version tap on the Profile icon> About Adobe Acrobat and make sure the app is updated via App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android)

Also, try rebooting the device once after the update and see if that helps.

If the issue still occurs, we would need a small video of the steps you are taking and the issue as it occurs, for further analysis and investigation.
