Not able to open Sharepoint pdf file link by click on that link on iPad through Adobe Acrobat app

Hi ,

We have sharepoint urls for pdf files . when we try to open those urls by just click on that url on any app like mail app etc it open on safari browser. we want this to open in adobe acrobat app.

like sharepoint word, excel and ppt urls open in their respective app on iPad. 

we want pdf url should open in adobe acrobat app or any app you suggest.

No this is not the same case. I want my sharepoint pdf url open in Adobe app on iPad when I press that url from any 3rd part app.

So what you are asking is that PDF documents that are accessed via web URL to be handled just by the Acrobat Reader Mobile app correct?

It opens on tje Safari web browser because that is the default pdf handler and viewer in iOS.

In contrast to macOS where you can change the default pdf handler with 2 easy steps, the same seems not to be the case for your mobile device.

The best way to accomplish that is to manually continue to copy the URL and choosing to open it with Acrobat Reader mobile app as described in the following thread:

Now, this thread is a little bit old and things might continue to change as Apple moves forward with new features for their iOS powered devices.

I will continue to keep an eye on this and post back if I can find new info.

Dont know why pdf url are only not working with pdf app like adobe and all. 

Rest all url like ppt , word ,excel urls open with their respective microsoft app.

If the PDF file was created in Adobe Acrobat Pro it is possible to modify the Preferences for that particular document or properly embed URLs in the document so they actually open when you use the Acrobat Reader mobile app.

If you can share a dummy file that would be great.

That way I can try to open it in an Android mobile device on my end and see if the same issue manifests, or, you can try it yourself.

If it does open in an Android mobile device then the issue seems to be more of an iPad OS issue.

So go ahead and ckick on this link that is sharing the same file from my Google Drive link:

You will notice that it won't open in Acrobat Reader Mobile app because Google Drive only supports and defaults the viewing of PDFs with its own PDF handler.

When you try to add other apps to handle PDF documents in your Drive account settings, Google Drive doesn't list for us any third party option software except their own apps.

Now, when you click on the link below, which I am now sharing via Adobe Document Cloud, you will notice that it will open in Adobe reader mobile app; and as long as your iOS has Acrobat Reader mobile  configured as the  default PDF viewer app.

If you are going to continue to share Adobe Acrobat documents or any PDF file with MS Sharepoint and Google Drive, you will have to always manually select "open with" in your iOS mobile devices.

I don't have a sharepoint account but, nevertheless, maybe in your Sharepoint account are settings available to the user to default Adobe Acrobat Reader as the pdf handler.

Keep in mind that as Microsoft continues to push its MS Edge browser and pdf handler, you may also get stuck trying to figure out why your pdf files won't open up with Acrobat like they should if it was natively supported by Micrososft in a SharePoint account.
