Acrobat Reader doesn't use a GPU, except for the normal thing of displaying on a screen. It should be able to display on any screen. What is it that you want it to do, that it won't do?

It won't use a GPU of any kind. If you want to work on making the performance better we might have ideas, but you won't get anywhere by focussing on the GPU.

No, it didn't used to run on your GPU. It doesn't even run on multiple cores.

The files you are opening. Where are they?

* On your main hard disk

* On a plugged in hard disk

* On a memory stick

* On a web site

* On a network server

* On a cloud server

Please say what actions are "laggy".

The files are on my C drive (the main one)

It gets laggy when

- I select the words (not highlighting)

- I save the file

- ..at random to be honest (or at least that how it looks like)

Note: Sometimes it also says program not responding at the top (next to the pdf's name)

Some PDF files are just very complicated and take a long time to work with. Have you tried an old file which used to be fine?

Also, is Reader up to date? What version do you have? There have been many bugs and some are fixed.

All the pdfs I'm using are old (revising) and so..yes they used to run just fine

The version I have right now is 19.010.20064 (No update available)

Note: even before re-installing windows I was using this version

This is good question. I had situation of PDF reader not being able to open heavy pdf file.

You can create a PDF reader shortcut that force to use GPU.

Once you use this shortcut it will open with GPU.

RQUINTAL_0-1674056107226.png

See the example from my side (location may be different in your side).

Target:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c "SET RENDERDOC_HOOK_EGL=0 && START "" ^"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroRd32.exe^" --disable-gpu-sandbox --gpu-startup-dialog"

Start In:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader"

Thank you.  When using the above shortcut for Acrobat DC, I get a dialog "There was an error opening this document.  This file cannot be found."  Any suggestions?

That's because this path he's provided, ("C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c "SET RENDERDOC_HOOK_EGL=0 && START "" ^"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroRd32.exe^" --disable-gpu-sandbox --gpu-startup-dialog") is no longer in Program Files (x86) but in Program Files.
