Power Automate Convert Word to editable PDF form?

Are we able to create fillable PDF forms using the Adobe connector in power automate? I have word documents and have tried adding legacy form fields and content controls but none of the fields come across as editable in the PDF using the Word to PDF action.

Thank you @Joel Geraci and @Ben Vanderberg, are there any plans to include this functionality. I am currently using the Encodian connector for this purpose but as we are looking to use the adobe connector for other things also would prefer to stick to the one. We use it to convert our company forms and learning documents over to pdf that users can enter data into, so i'm not sure the other options are suitable at the moment. They were hoping to use an automated process rather than convert manually.

@R.Jones Depends on what it is that you are looking to have in the roadmap. If it is taking fields in Word and converting them into interactive PDFs, I don't think we have any plans for that as part of our PDF Tools.

If it is a question of whether we can populate information from your data and populate it into the Word documents, that will be happening very soon.

@Ben Vanderberg yes it would be taking the fields in word to create the interactive pdf forms. I'll have to keep using Encodian for that purpose, thanks for your help and prompt responses!

If you want to create a fillable form, you have a few options:

  • Use Adobe Acrobat to take your PDF and convert it into an interactive PDF form.
  • If you are wanting to merge data into the document dynamically, the upcoming Document Generation API in Power Automate will be good for you as it will allow you to take your Word documents and merge data from Power Automate data.
  • If you are wanting to have an interactive PDF but is cloud based and for it to notify Power Automate, consider using Adobe Sign. Contrary to its name, you can use it to create interactive forms that then can trigger a Power Automate flow.

@Ben Vanderberg I just saw this thread. Can you please elaborate how interactive PDFs being created by Adobe Sign + Power Automate flow?

I was just wondring if text tags feature from Adobe Sign can be used to generate interative PDFs.

We want to convert compliacted MS word into fillable form while not drag&drop form field in Acrobat.

Yes, you can generate a form from a PDF document using Adobe Sign. When you import a document into Adobe Sign from Word with text tags, it will replace those text tags with form fields. In Adobe Sign, you can make what is called a Web Form.

Then in Power Automate, you can then capture that form field information. There is an article here on a similar type of approach: https://medium.com/adobetech/store-form-data-from-adobe-sign-in-a-microsoft-dataverse-record-1e98b07736b3

At this time, populating PDF form fields with data is not a service we offer in PDF Tools API. However, our AEM Forms Cloud Service will do exactly that. See the link below.
