Making PDF's ADA Compliant

I work for a public school district and I am in the process of making all of our PDF's ADA compliant for our website.  While some documents are easy, I have run into others that I just can't figure out or understand how to make them compliant.

Is there an expert that could help walk me through a couple of these docs?  Does anyone know of a training?  It would be so helpful.

There's not much out there on this topic.

My firm teaches people howto make PDFs Sec. 508 (aka, ADA) compliant.

We provide online and on-site classes, consultation, one-on-one assistance, DIY books, etc.

You'll need training in the following topics:

  • What makes a PDF compliant and fully accessible to students with disabilities, regardless of which assistive technology (AT) they use.
  • How to check, review, and validate PDFs for compliance.
  • How to remediate (or fix) PDFs to make them compliant.

And as you'll hear from any of us in the industry, the best and most cost-effective solution is to make compliant PDFs from the source files (such as Word, InDesign, etc.). That means training the folks who give you the noncompliant PDFs.

We've worked with schools (K-12 and post-secondary) to train their staff in various methods of making PDFs and documents accessible.
