Question

Save as and Print are slow

I presently use Windows 7. For the last few months, I find that the Save As and Print functions in Adobe Acrobat DC are very slow and start with "Not responding". Are other users experiencing the same issues?

Hi Nabilh,

When you say that performance of Save As and Print function are slow, does it mean its slow for every document that you are trying to Save or Print. Or any specific PDF which is lager in size or contain high resolution images in it?

You may check the following to see if that improves anything:

  • Reboot computer. (At times a simple reboot resolves the complicated issues)
  • Make sure you have got the latest patch of Acrobat installed. Open Acrobat>Help>Check for update Or refer to release notes here: DC Release Notes — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products
  • For testing, navigate to Adobe Acrobat>Edit>Preferences>Security(Enhanced)>Disable "protected View"

Note: Changing the above security settings could pose security risks. We suggest you to turn it back On once you are done with testing.

Let us know the status.

Thanks,

Akanchha

Good Morning Akanchha,

Thank you for looking into my inquiry. Unfortunately, the slow saving & printing of PDF documents with DC Reader is not limited only to my PC. I checked at my place of work and, according to our IT Tech, all office staff are experiencing a similar issue. The saving & printing of PDF documents is slow, regardless of the document size. No issues with saving & printing documents in Excel or Word format.

As I am not a computer savvy, I do not venture to download or install patches on my PC, unless they are from secure sources. I am quite surprised that Adobe was never made aware of that issue with Acrobat Reader DC. I recall a few months ago, there was another issue with Acrobat being very slow to perform operations. This issue was then resolved a month or 2 later.

I visited the DC Release notes link that you mention below. Unfortunately, I could not figure out which INSTALLER to look for & try to decipher the technical lingo. It would be great if Adobe would review that issue & come up with a Patch in order to resolve it.

Meanwhile, I will have to accept & do with whatever Acrobat Reader DC is presently offering as a working tool.

Thanks again for your concern.
