Combining PDF Files Causes Characters to be Replaced by Whitespace

I have a client who needs to combine several PDF files.  The individual files display with no problems.  However, when they are combined into a new file, some of the text is replaced with whitespace.  The font in question is Times New Roman.

Please let us know if the document was combined via Acrobat web or the Acrobat desktop application. Would you mind sharing a few sample PDFs and their combined PDFs for us to check?

Also, please check if the fonts are embedded in the PDF.

It was occurring in Acrobat desktop.  I'll check with the client to see if we can share the PDFs.  How would we go about sharing as we don't want to do so publicly.
