Can't convert .mp4 to GIF like described, error message

I am trying to convert a .mp4 to a gif. The file is 30 seconds, and 11MB. When I try and upload, I get an error stating the file type is not supported. I refreshed my Chrome browser, and tried using Safari, and still get the same error. Anyone know why, or another easy way to convert it?
