FEATURE: WEBP Image Format?

Community Expert ,
Jan 21, 2023 Jan 21, 2023

Does Adobe Express have plans to support WEBP images?  I could find no mention of it in the Express User Guide or FAQ.

For those who don't know, WEBP has been around for a while.  It's a preferred image file format that supports lossy & lossless compression as well as alpha transparency and animation.   The image quality is better and file size is smaller than a comparable PNG or JPG.

You can upload a .webp image into an Adobe Express Post or Web Page project, but not a Video project.

I haven't seen any news about .webp being a format for downloading a Post project, though.

Do you know if Express supports animated WebP?

And then there's this app?

Nope, I just tried, and it came up with an error saying it doesn't support that file type?

Yep, I'm getting the same message now when I test it. It may have been a change they made when they updated Adobe Express.

Yeah, I just tried to add webp to a presentation and that worked. 🤷‍:female_sign: so I guess a bug in the webpage side.

Any update on this? webp exports have been available in photoshp for a long time now... it would be really good to have it in Express.

You know what's even funnier, Adobe's website uses AVIF images. But their apps and services don't support AVIF.  That tells me their website team is using other graphics tools.
