Insert shape and make exact size

Community Beginner ,
Dec 09, 2023 Dec 09, 2023

hi, I'm trying to use Adobe Express and want to insert a rectangle shape and make this an exact size (2 in x 1.5 in). How do I do this?? I can so far only see how to drag the image arbitrarily to change the size.

Hi,

If you premium then you should be able to select the rectangle and click "resize" in the top left, that should show this

I do have premium. The resize option only seems to be for resizing the page/document? And not for individual shapes/images.

Did you ever find a solution for this? I'm having the same issue and it seems ridiculous that there's no way to resize shapes to specific dimensions in this program?

Unfortunately not! It’s very frustrating just eye balling how big to make images.

Kind regards,

Jasmine

Hi,

I have a work around that is not bad but maybe not awesome, anyway.

  • Create a new page
  • make it the size you want the object to be
  • make object on new page
  • copy and paste to main page
  • delete extra page

As I said not great but does mean you can size objects.

Thanks BarlaeDC!   your workaround does work, but Adobe definitely needs to get it together and add custom sizing to all elements.

Hi

,

Could you please elaborate more on what exactly you would like to accomplish?

Seems pretty clear. The resize button / command that may in fact be there is not shown for most objects... we need basic freeform "transform" controls and exact dimension via input field abilities... these controls need to be 1) available 2) obvious / easy like the rest of express!

Anybody know if Adobe is going to address this seemingly silly flaw? Also, please give us grides and rulers.

Hi,

The easiest way to do this is the following:

  1. Take your first item and drag it to the left corner until it snaps to the left and top border
  2. Resize by draging the circle on the edge of the shape after a single click.
  3. Drag other items over it and resize until the shortest side of the second shape snaps to the first shapes borders
  4. Drag the second shape to a new area and repeat for other shapes, using the first one as a size reference and letting the app do the snapping for you while you resize.

I have the same problem, It worked with the workaround but it is awful that Adobe doesn't think about it and add a solution for this silly problem that it should be so easy to fix it

Not onlyl this problem, but I can't seem to do anything but "scale" many objects. i.e. cannot elongate them without widening them as well... weird.

How does a basic feature like this one (set the precise size of a shape) need "upvoting"?? I mean this is the most basic thing you want to do to create designs that align with areas of the file. This should be considered as a bug to be fixed ASAP.

I think it's mostly because you simply don't need an "exact size" becaouse no one is going to  measure anything-- you make the graphic the size you need, and forget about "exact sizes"...  "Hey bob, that's a nice 2" sqaure ya got there"- that will never ever happen.

I need a sqaure yea big to go behind this image of a turtle.

beleive it or not "Yea big" works 99.999999999% of the time.

Thanks for trying to help, but as a designer I know when I need exact size or not. In this case, I do need (and want) to be able to create shapes of specific sizes. It's about building a pro vs an amateur composition.

I have a problem associated with this ,  as I need to create a triangle that'll have one angle 10deg and one 90 deg and no chance of adjusting lengths of sides as the shape keeps the same ratio....My company logo has got this shape in it and so shame can't use Adobe Express for this. I got the fist month free and unfortunately have to cancel.. I'd bring me heart attack if I bought the software yet to find out can't use it for my business marketing...
