Community Beginner ,
Nov 21, 2024 Nov 21, 2024

My Spark presentation went missing.  All of my students presentations are still available but mine gets a 404.

How do I get it back?

Hi

@billy_1498

,

Welcome to the community! Please try signing in here at https://adobe.ly/3CJaL64 and go to "Your Stuff" and see if you're able to find your presentation there or not.

Otherwise, your Spark projects should be here: https://adobe.ly/3Z19SNt. If you don't see them, I suspect you're logging in with a different User name/account.

Regards,

Tarun

Thanks for the reply Tarun-

Both links lead to the same page - I don't get anything different between the two. I can see a previous Spark that I did but not this one.

This is through my school's institutional account so nothing should have changed over the past five years... I'm stumped.

Billy

I definitely looked at it within the past six months. I thought that this was the shared link (not the work link) but nothing shows up for it but a 404.

My students' pages show up... here's an example: https://spark.adobe.com/page/SiSM9sJ3gOYOk/

Same problem here. Still shows 404. Adobe Engineering stalled for weeks and emailed basically admitting they have no idea where my Spark Page is.

This is more than just an annoyance. This was a record/ document of our lives during COVID. It's a real drag to now have to reconsider using an Adobe product knowing that they could just discontinue it at their whim. I'm reminded that using this to create an artwork is a copyrighted entity and they really don't have the luxury of deleting someone's art.

... and the fact that they didn't allow for any kind of download means your work just vanishes....

and in Adobe's own rules:

2.2 Our Access to Your Content

Section 2.2 means:

No one but you owns your content, but we need access to your content as necessary to operate Adobe applications and services. We limit our access to very specific purposes.

I think the plan was everything was to migrate. In my situation most things did, but one client Spark Page did not. Also, some video projects migrated but they were no longer editable. So, I think there was an attempt to preserve the files and I got one (very late) notice about the migration. In one of my community posts an Adobe employee labeled my situation as a "Bug" so in light of that and the email from Adobe Engineering telling me more or less they weren't sure where my file is, I would say their migration didn't go so smoothly, didn't have contingencies or backups. If so, I wouldn't imagine it would take WEEKS to still report not being able to find my file. If they had a backup in case migration went bad they would have just pulled it from the backup.

But Adobe acquires and ends tools and software all the time. I'm certain that's in the terms of service. I've never been a big fan of the "cloud" in general because of vulnerability to data loss, hacking, privacy. In most cases I have cloud features of Adobe turned off, but in the case of a Spark Page that could not live on my local machine. Lesson learned and the unintended message that sends to me is, "Don't ever rely on Adobe to host or store your stuff" which is ironic since the product is named "Adobe Creative CLOUD."

I think the lesson learned here is not to use any product that doesn't allow you to download and save your work locally.
