Noob question, where's gradient color for shapes?

I try to love Adobe Express for designing on the go or some simple stuff, because currently I am using Canva for it.

But only in a few minutes trying to do simple invitation card design, I already find a difficulty! I cannot find any gradient color setting for shapes. Even searching in this forum does not help. I even need to find a tutorial for this, but none. lol.

Only the best solution is installing an ADDON for it and not pretty intuitive at all because it's an image.

Did I miss it? or just non-existent...? I mean it's just a gradient tool!

Hello @hekselsior no, we don't have a gradient tool in Adobe Express yet. However, you can use the Gradient Add-On (as you have already discovered) to create an image gradient.

From that starting point you can then choose Crop from the panel on the left hand side and crop your gradient image into a shape. You can then resize the gradient image to best fit the shape until you get something you like.

Ah that's too bad. Because that gradient add-on is not that intuitive. You cannot edit the color easily once it's placed in the artboard because it's converted as a flat image. I hope Gradient fill and editing will be available in the primary tool.

I am also surprised that no AI background expanding is not integrated here, because in Canva, they have it.

So unfortunately, I will stick with Canva for this case.

Hi

@carla_7757

Welcome to the community! I'd like to inform you that you'll find this when you're in a project, click 'add ons' and you'll find the gradient tool.

Regards,

Tarun

Hi Tarun,

Thank you for your help. I did try the gradient add-on, but it doesn’t quite fit my use case.

I need to create a CTA button with a gradient color. The gradient add-on only allows me to crop a gradient image into a shape, but there’s no CTA button shape available. Even if there were, I’d lose the ability to resize and adjust the button because it would become an image instead of a shape.

Currently, I can create this in Canva, but it means I have to work in Adobe Express, then upload everything to Canva just to add the gradient-colored CTA button. That’s why I was wondering if this feature might be on your roadmap.

Thanks again!

It doesn't allow gradients with transparency. The easiest option I have found is to use CANVA to create such gradients and then import them via pdf .

Adobe Express's Gradient Add-On is not intuitive, and it lacks range and flexibility.

So far as I can tell, the Add-on limits users to two color stops, which is sharply limiting.

Worse, there Add-On appears to flatten gradients once they're applied to the page, depriving users the luxury of making edits.

Canva's gradient feature is much more intuitive, but the App doesn't let users play with opacity and the way Photoshop does.

Boo-urns!
