Text editing with colors and forms - am I stupid?

So I'm quite the beginner here. I have used Express for 2 months but can't seem to figure this one out. I can't imagine it can't be done but I am lost.

So I have a picture and I want to write a text in the center. However I need to follow a some "graphical guidelines" and highligt some words in the text with a different text color and a form. When I do try to that the whole text changes, not just the words I have marked. Up to this point I have used several "text boxes", sometimes one for every word, just to be able to have different colors and forms for certain words in a sentence.

There must be an easier way, right?
