P: Transparent background or layers

Community Beginner ,
Mar 25, 2023 Mar 25, 2023

Is there a way to generate an image with a transparent background. Altrnantively, will there be a way to produce an image as file with layers so we can easily  remove the background?

Thank you for your suggestion. At this moment, Firefly cannot create transparent backgrounds. This has been a highly requested feature that will be added to our backlog for discussion. (Merging all similar threads here so we can track the popularity of this feature request)

It would be great ifyou could create your subject[s] on one layer with certain filters and your background on a separate layer with separate filters.

It would be awesome to have text and the background as two separate layers.

It would be nice to download the image with the background removed. Currently when you use the Background tool in Generative Fill it erases the background on the screen but if you download it, you don't get the image with background removed.

I have a family photo where I already painstakingly isolated the 5 family members.  I'd like to upload that to have it generate a new background without having to go through a process of removing the background again.  Please allow PNG upload with already isolated subjects.

This is a relatively simple task. At the current stage of development you may use other Adobe software to work in layers. Use Firefly for the creative background and merge Background with Family picture in Photoshop.

To update this discussion.  In Firefly2 you can now select the image, then edit and remove background.  Once inside of Adobe Express, select transparent as the background color and download as a png file or save to creative cloud.  You can fine tune your mask from there.  I hope this helps.

I removed the background and now I want to save the image without the background. Can I do this? If I click save, it saves me the original picture with the background.

It's best to do this background removal in Photoshop.

Jill, this is the ideas/suggestions forum where we offer suggestions for Firefly.  Transparent generation is possible now in MidJourney and other platforms.  Firefly should offer this.

Absolutely! You would think Adobe would have proivided this by now, it was requested a lot. Instead they just suggested you use Adobe Express to do it. I want to be able to do it from Firefly. I can't use Express on my computer. It would have seemed an easy fix, you could remove the background in Firefly, all we wanted was to be able to save it with the background removed.

I'm removing the background from an image, but when I download and save, the background is still there, even though it's removed in the preview. How do I save without the background?

Using Firefly you can replace the background with something you let Firefly create. But for removing the background and making it transparent, you will need an image editor.

I can't for the life of my understand how after removing the BG perfectly, I can't freakin' download that image. It FORCES me to add a generative fill in the BG. Who's idea was this? JUST ADD THIS FUNCTION it's a no-brainer. I know I'm being rude here, but if you only knew the Adobe woes I've had as of late...ooo wee.
