Hello everyone,
If you have error code 86 when opening an Adobe XD file.

If you are on a Mac equipped with an Apple Silicon chip.
1- Uninstall Creative Cloud Desktop and reinstall it by selecting macOS | Other download methods.
https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/creative-cloud-desktop-app-download.html

2- Open Creative Cloud Desktop > File, then drag and drop the file. The file will re-synchronize and from the cloud click on the blue "open" button.

If you are on Windows try the second solution directly, if it still does not work contact Adobe customer support.

Thanks,
Mathieu

Hi
I am unable to open the adobe XD file. Its error code is error code: 86 and the message box showing that "this is not valid XD document"
I've read your previous guidance in other related topics and I've done what you recommended such as:
* creating new user account and checking my file again
* uninstalling creative cloud and Adobe XD by Adobe creative cloud cleaner and then install the latest version of those

* changing name of my file

* checking my file on another laptop with another Adobe account
after all I still have problem with opening this spesific file
this file is very important to me cause I've worked on this for about 1 month.
My laptop info:
CPU: core i7
Ram: 8 G
Graphic: 1 G
SSD: 250 G

Thank you in advanced

The solutions provided here does NOT work at all. I followed every step of the way, got the same error. I love the design I've made there and all went to junk because of this error. I should have not updated my XD. Now even if I get back to the old XD, problem still there.

I agree - why has this topic been marked as solved? There's no working solution listed here.

Hi there,

I am expriencing error code 86 with my document, and cannot open it. I have seen this has effected many users but theres no fix I can see in the forums.

I have tried all the recommended steps (activity monitor, uninstalling, etc), and even tried on a sperate computer with a seperate adobe account. Running the latest XD version also.

I have the AdobeLogs file generated also. If a member of support can assist that would be much apprecaited indeed.

Thanks!

Thanks for your quick reply, Harshika!

Here are the screenshots. It is happening for only one file, all others are working fine. The file is a local file - I have several local files, and several in the cloud. The file was last accessed at the same time as all of the others, and saved without any issues, and the others open without any issues at all.

Any help would be much apprecaited. I can share the file and the log with you if that helps via a private message.

Detailed case:

It is a local machine only file not kept inside creative cloud documents. I worked on it over a month or so and it has the latest designs for a quite a few important application modules.

While I was working on it there was a power issue occured and my win-10 (build 1909) got restarted. Didn't got a scope to manually save the document. When the pc restarted and tried opening the document it started showing "Error code: 86" this is not a valid xd document.

What I've tried so far:

1. Created a new windows user account:

Tried creating a new windows user account. Installed the xd on the new user account. Tried opening the document but same error occured.

Questions

Q1. Is there anyway I can open this corrupted xd document? I haven't ever stored this document on creative cloud.

Q2. Does xd keeps any temp copy somewhere in "AppData\Local" under windows environment?

Q3. What caused this issue to occure?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I am sorry to hear that you've had to deal with Error 86 after power shutdown in XD file and thanks for trying the troubleshooting steps. I would like to confirm if you've tried restarting the machine, I know it's a basic step but we have seen cases where after restarting the machine file gets open up fine.

If that doesn't help, please try checking the file under temp folder and see if the file exists. If you didn't find the file there I would need a few more details like-

  • Which version of XD was used to create the affected file?
  • What is the current version of XD installed in the machine?
  • What is the OS version?
  • Is there any antivirus activated on the machine? If yes, what is the name of antivirus?
  • Was the file edited by more than one designer?
  • What were the last steps performed by you since the error?
  • Name of the Artboard you worked on?

We will try our best to help.

Thanks,

Harshika

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. We would like to know when exactly you have started experiencing this issue? Does this message comes up only when accessing the file stored in Document Cloud?

Check if the Creative Cloud app is up to date.

Also, try installing Adobe XD again. I recommend you use Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to uninstall Adobe XD and delete any corrupt files.

Thanks,

Divya
