Unable to Create AGM Font ("Adobe Clean - Bold") in After Effects

Dear Adobe Support Team,

I am facing a recurring issue while launching Adobe After Effects on my workstation. The error message displayed is:

"After Effects warning: Unable to create AGM font ('Adobe Clean' - 'Bold')

Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700 @ 2.10 GHz

Installed RAM: 16 GB (15.7 GB usable)

System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Operating System: [Mention your Windows version, e.g., Windows 10 Pro]

After Effects Version: [Mention AE version, e.g., After Effects 2024

Since none of these steps resolved the problem, I would appreciate your guidance on how to fix this issue. Please let me know if you require any additional details

So we have found a solution for this. It has affected more than just Adobe After Effects in our environment, so its worth taking a look at if you have other programs that are crashing with font errors as well.

This fix is for Windows 11.

  • Open Windows Security.
  • Select the App and Browser Control option.
  • Then go into Exploit Protection Settings.
  • Choose Program Settings and then "Add program to customize" navigate to the After Effects.exe file (should be called AfterFX.exe make sure you arent using the shortcut).
  • Scroll down and select "override system settings" next to Block untrusted fonts. Then check this option off. Click apply.

Now you should be able to launch After Effects and get no font errors.

Same problem. Nothing seems to fix it.

I can’t creat a Font layer, because AE doesnt seem to be able to use fonts anymore. everything else works.

Deleted all Adobe Fonts, now its failing to load “normal” fonts. Re-Installed several versions of AE. Re-Installed AdobeCC Client, and everything else mentioned. This is incredibly damaging to my business.

Absolutely ridiculous. I had experienced the same issue with 25.1 (which is running stable now), that I managed to fix.
I have now setup a brand new device with nothing on it, and 26.1 is still crashing on startup.

Edit - The logs folder in AppData(Windows) is also empty. I cant even share a log file.
Edit 2 - I am on a strictly regulated system, and cannot configure App Settings in Windows Security
Edit 3 - I need to get started with my projects, and none of the older versions of After Effects eem to work as well. Officially locked out of After Effects.

Resolved this bug by adjusting the Windows security settings.

Open Windows Security.
Select the App and Browser Control option.
Then go into Exploit Protection Settings.
Choose Program Settings and then "Add program to customize" navigate to the After Effects.exe and Premiere.exe file (should be called AfterFX.exe make sure you arent using the shortcut).
Scroll down and select "override system settings" next to Block untrusted fonts. Then check this option off. Click apply.

I would love to be able to use this solution, but I am on a very locked-down computer controlled by admins.  I cannot update any security settings, or anything else for that matter!  I have never been able to launch Adobe Charater Animator because of this "Can't create AGM Font" issue - and now after an update, I can't open After Effects!  Scared to update any other app now in case they all start to fall over...

Has anyone fond a better solution for the issue besides the Block untrusted fonts option. Although this fixed the issue with AE crashing on the start, but now certain fonts don't work for me anymore.

Thanks! I can confirm this fixed the issue for me in Windows 10, and After Effects now opens correctly.
