After Effects 2015 won't preview in real time after El Capitan update.

Hello,

Has anyone experienced the following issue and found a solution for it?

Right after Update to El Capitan 10.11 the After Effects 2015 stopped ram previewing in real time.

No matter what i do it won’t work.

I have a latest MAC Pro 2.7 GHz 12-Core with 64GB ram.

The AE 2014 still works though.

Everybody who is having this issue please install the latest update: After Effects CC (November 2017) Bug-Fix Update Is Now Available that is supposed to finally close this thread for good! please report if this issue has been resolved.

if you can't see the update yet, wait a while until you see it. try relaunching Creative Cloud app by typing Ctrl+Alt+R. I see it.

this update is 14.0.1 and is a bug fix for many disturbing issues especially for Mac users. it does not fix all the bugs that are new with this release - look here for bug#2 and #3 that are still not fixed (bug #1 is fixed I believe): Known issues in After Effects CC 2017 and hopefully a bug fix for those will come pretty soon.

    It works for me too!

I even try mofxtv´s solution with a two monitors workspace and preview works at real time!

    Thanks mate!

So I might have found a "better" temporary fix. (I'm on AE 13.7 along with El Capitan and had been using the tilde key to maximize the preview window.)

    THE (workaround) FIX:

Open the Render Queue and drag it below the timeline. Haven't done much experimenting, but having the Render Queue below the timeline allows me to preview in real-time again. If I close the Render Queue, the lags starts again.

Absolutely fantastic, I've been trying to fix this problem for 2 days now. I have talked to multiple Adobe techs through Chat and I have had them take control of my computer to try and troubleshoot this problem and none of them had any clue.

This worked for me, how strange??? But, they seriously need to fix this problem - because the audio playback is so bad it's useless and cannot be used professionally.

    Thank you!

Does Todd's post address your issue? Re: After Effects 2015 won't preview in real time after El Capitan update.

Hi there! I know is a pain but is what it is, since the big guys doesn't release a proper fix we have to make the most out of our machines.

I have tried to have full screen Compo panel in one monitor the rest of Ae Layout on the main one and it works fine for me. (always Timeline panel smaller than usual)

I believe the problem comes from the timeline, I guess is something to do with the interface rendering not using properly the sys resources.

I have tried in a Mac Pro 32gb ram iMac i7 32gbram and macbook pro i7 16gbram in non of them works fluidly with the standard layout. You have to make the Timeline panel smaller and then it flights.

this has been messed up for months now. have been using AFX since mid 90's and it has never felt so clunky, slow and inefficient in previewing and rendering. really, please fix this ASAP, it's a REAL DRAG on the work flow.

Hi Alex! It works for me too. But honestly, i would like to have the possibility to work with two screens. It's really hard to keep a high productivity level doing your job when the tools doesn't work properly.

I know adobe is working in that bug...i just hope they will can bring us the right solution as soon as possible.

Come on, Adobe.  This is taking way too long to fix.

Hi, just for you to know. Maximising the Composition panel works perfectly fine, but I have found out that by making the Timeline panel smaller works fine as well for me. So i have just dragged down and make it smaller so I can see where I am against the timeline compo and also see the Ram Preview. Give it a go and let me know how it works for you guys.

The fact that placing the render window below the timeline actually works scares me a little. Why are the 2 things even connected, Thanks for the "non-adobe " fix, AE has always been a little flaky with Audio but its starting to really lose it. Come on Adobe, Ae isnt just for graphics anymore.

Hi! Having the same problem. The thing is that i update to el capitan and to after effects CC 13.7 at the same time, so i am not sure if it's about el capitan, or after effects cc 2015, or both.

After trying different "solutions" that i read on different forums, the only thing that seems to "work" is to use a one screen workspace and maximize the composition window to hide the timeline window.

Even Adobe Audition CC (v8.1) doesn't plays audio files properly (i tested .aiff and .wav files)

Seems like AE can't handle the timeline and preview in view at the same time. My colleague found a work around; maximize any other panels, besides the timeline, so the timeline isn't in view. Then try RAM preview. Worked for me.

**Only read the first page, sorry if someone's already mentioned this.

Thanks for chiming in. This has been mentioned though. In fact, last week we had input from Todd on Adobe's AE team. He came in here, explained the actual problem, why it's taken so long to figure out a fix, and that the fix is targeted for the next update. Hooray!

There are some easy ways to work around this until the fix comes. Here are the two that spring to my mind:

    1. Press the ` (grave) key with your mouse over the composition panel. That keyboard shortcut maximizes whatever panel you're on.

    2. In the preview panel, check the fullscreen box. This means that every time you run a preview, it'll be full screen. (Personally, I prefer 1)

Yes but the reply of the Adobe's team is a bit worring because they claim that the bug comes from the new 10.11 API. Ok, fine.

The only problem is that I'm on 10.10.5 and I have this exact same bug too, and I'm not the only one ( mention this fact into the thread, no reply from Adobe).

So I'm not sure that the next update will fix anything since Adobe's team seems not understand what is the problem.

(To prevent any time consuming useless discussion: Yes, it is the exact same bug that I am talking about. The Ram preview plays ok, at realtime, when the timline panel is hidden and using the ` key too maximise the preview window to hide the timeline during the playback works for me too. So it is the exact same bug that we are talking about)
