the scene from Harry potter and the chamber of secrets where harry is writing in the diary and his text disapears and new text appears on the page as if something just wrote it.

would anyone have any tips on how to make this effect with a non stationary shot?

Certainly! Creating the effect where text appears to write itself in a non-stationary shot, similar to the scene from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, involves a combination of visual effects and clever editing. Here are some tips on achieving this effect:
Text Animation:
Animate the Text: Create your initial text layer with the content you want to appear. Animate it using keyframes to simulate the writing motion. You can use the Position property to move the text across the screen.
Opacity Keyframes: Gradually increase the opacity of the text layer to make it appear as if it’s being written.
Masking: Use masks to reveal the text progressively. You can animate the mask path to follow the writing motion.
Text Disappearance: To make the text disappear, reverse the animation by decreasing opacity or using a mask.
Background and Shot Composition:
Choose Your Background: Ensure that your background matches the scene. In the Harry Potter example, it’s a parchment or diary page.
Camera Movement: Since you mentioned a non-stationary shot, consider camera movement. You can pan, tilt, or zoom to add dynamism.
Match Movement: Match the movement of your text layer to the camera movement. Parent the text layer to a null object and animate the null object’s position.
Layer Order:
Foreground and Background: Place your text layer above the background layer (parchment or diary page).
Blending Modes: Experiment with blending modes (e.g., Multiply, Overlay, or Screen) to make the text interact with the background realistically.
Sound Effects:
Audio Enhancements: Add sound effects of a quill writing or scratching on paper. This will enhance the illusion of writing.
Compositing and Editing:
Cut and Edit: Cut your shot into smaller segments where the text appears. Edit these segments together seamlessly.
Transitions: Use wipes, dissolves, or other transitions to smoothly transition between text segments.
Color Grading:
Match Colors: Adjust the color grading to match the overall tone of the scene. Desaturate or add a sepia tone if needed.
Remember that achieving this effect requires attention to detail, patience, and experimentation. Test different techniques and refine your composition until it looks convincing. Good luck with your magical text-writing effect!
