Rendering H.264 / MP4 in Media Encoder - Large Output

Hello,

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

What I'm trying to do >

I want to render a comp from AE as an h.264 mp4 file (it's native resolution is 7680 x 1080 64:9). I'm doing this via Media Encoder as AE have dropped the codec.

My issue >

When I try to export it media encoder forces it down to 4096 x 1080 (and has unwanted letterboxing) there is no way of manually adjusting this to match 7680 x 1080 64:9 under Basic Video Settings.

Any ideas?

Anybody know what the best way to export this codec at this size and ratio in AE/Media Encoder?

7680 x 1080 isn't supported yet.

The supported frame sizes for MP4 are tied to the profile level.

This blog has a great table showing which frame sizes are supported by which profile level:

H.264 profiles and levels | Inside & Outside MediaCoder

What's the intended use of the file?  If you can go with Apple ProRes422 (LT) or Apple ProRes422 (Proxy), that CODEC supports significantly larger frame size, both standard and custom.  (Side note:  A 1st generation ProRes422 (Proxy) fill will look really good.  It just won't hold up well to recompression later.)

Yes it will work on newer version of AE and you must use level 6.0 or higher or unrestricted level.

That is right. If my screenshot was misleading (that was made to show "where" not "how")- sorry. Of course profile 5 is to low to use higher resolution. To do that you have to go higher.

The latest update in CC2018 supports h.264 resolution up to 16k. This should work. Like imeilfx suggested, change the level and you will get there.

You have to change level profile of your mp4 preset/ to higher one and then change/set your resolution

or use h265 codec in mp4 wrapper.
