unbalanced unlock ( 7 :: 40 )

Hi:

I just got an error that displays and doesn't want to go away even after I click the only OK button in the dialog box.

The error as cryptic as this is, is:

"After Effects error : unbalanced unlock. ( 7 :: 40 )

Does anybody know how to get rid of this and why did it show up in the first place?

Using Mac OSX El Capitan with the latest AECC2015 update (13.6.1.6)

Thanks.

    Hey Everyone,

    Just ran into the same thing. I ended up getting rid of it by purging my memory and cache (Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache...).

    Heads up, I had to be crafty and hit Enter to clear the error then immediately click Edit before the error popped up again.

    Hope this helps!

    Kris_Cave, thank you! The trick of hitting enter then quickly hitting edit > purge did the trick. Thanks a bunch!

    It's a continuous error... Nothing can stop this, without forced stop....

    Caps lock was the culprit for me. I kept hitting escape until I got to a point where I could save. Exited AE and re-opened and noticed my caps lock was on. Turned it off and all was well.

    Also posting just to document. Same error message. Lots of smashing Enter to escape it. The Purge fixed it for me as well.

    Happened while I was kerning type in a comp containing an MP4 and a type layer.

    Same error occurred while fiddling with a Path.   kris_cave's solution also worked for me. Thank you Kris Cave!

    SOLUTION:

    Get rid of it by purging memory and cache (Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache...).

    Heads up, hit Enter to clear the error then immediately click Edit before the error popped up again.

    I've just had this same problem when moving an animated mask that's applied to a solid layer.  As soon as I clicked the 'ok' button, the message would appear again, over and over and over.  I tried the quick press-Enter-and-click-Edit-menu suggestion but I couldn't get that to work as the message reappeared instantly.  I also resorted to holding my finger on the Escape key and the message just kept on re-appearing.  I eventually had to force AE to close and reload an auto-save, only to find that the auto-save hasn't been auto-saving all morning.  So a morning's work lost.  Lesson learned, don't rely on auto-save either.

    Windows 7 Professional, After Effects CC 2017...  this sort of thing shouldn't be happening!
