Adobe Animate crashes when creating new file or open existing file

Community Beginner ,
Mar 06, 2020 Mar 06, 2020

I've been using Animate 2019, and I just can't seem to figure out what's causing this issue, it was working fine until I saved a file few weeks ago.

Then when I opened that said file, the program crashes, and when I try to create a new file, it crashes too, with no errors popping up whatsoever, it just loads for a few seconds and then closes instantly.

I've already tried the solutions provided to fix this, but nothing seems to work at all, resetting preferences, deleting Creative Cloud and reinstalling it, none of them work.

Oops...  I must have clipped off the bottom of my above message...

Hoping somebody else has been able to resolve this.  Any ideas are appreciated.  Thanks for your time.

Thank you!

Pat

Thank you for the reply kglad.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled four times.  Each time, I erased the settings (in the uninstall process).  Because I cannot really ever get into the app, I haven't changed the settings in any way.  So I'm always using the default settings.

If anybody has any idea, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks,

Pat

Thanks again for the reply kglad.

I can get to the screen capture you shared.  But as soon as I choose a preset animation size and go to start the animation, it crashes.  I have attached the error message.  Note that sometimes, the application simply exits without error message instead.

Any idea would be great.

Thank you!

Pat

1. from that screen you can assign a custom keyboard shortcut.  do so.

2. then uninstall animate including preferences.

3. reinstall animate > open animate and confirm your custom shortcut was reset.

4. if it was not reset,  return to 2.

5. if it was, retest for crashing

Hi kglad,

I assigned a keyboard shortcut as you said.  I then uninstalled the program removing settings.  I reinstalled it.

The keyboard shortcut that I had added is no longer there so I can confirm that the settings are reset.  The program still crashes as soon as I start a new animation.

I don't have anything else to even try...  Sigh...

Thanks for your help.  If anybody has any ideas, I would love to use this software with my class.

Thanks,

Pat

Hey, I have the exact same issue and screen as @patrick_2771 - I can try to open a new file, but once I do, it shows me the workspace shortly before printing an error-message and closing the program. Analyzing the error-message with ChatGPT brought up potential issues with some Java-Versions.
I tried:
1) Uninstalling Animate & Reinstalling
2) Uninstalling the complete CC & Reinstalling
3) Installing specific Java-Versions
4) Installing older anminate-Versions
5) Ofc restarting, starting as an admin

Any Ideas what else I could try?

Additional info: Other Programs from the CC, like Photoshop, Illustrator and XD work without a hitch

Thanks to everybody who has replied.

I am a teacher and I am giving up on Animate CC for this year.   Unfortunately, I used an inferior program to do Animation lessons but at least it worked.

Hoping to use Animate next year if I manage to make it work on my PC.

Thanks,

Pat
