Audio Playback Sound is Way too Fast

Hello,

 

I just recorded an audio session that was about 2 hours long. Once I stopped the recording, the file time was only 35 minutes long and the audio sound is being played back very fast and high pitched like the "chipmunks". What would cause this to happen? And How can I get it to go back to normal. 

 

I have tried these things but nothing sounds normal as a fix. 

Changeing the preferences/playback and recordings - JKL Shuttlespeed to half speed then using L to slow it down. This did bring it down a bit, I can at least understand the words but it is still way too fast. 

 

I have also played around with the Effect - Time and Pitch process - I could probably tweak it a bit to make it useable to transcribe the words off of the recording, but it isn't the natural sound of the recording. 

 

Why did this happen and What can I do to prevent this from happening again???

Have to ask some questions: Firstly, what was the sample rate of the original recording set to? Secondly, what's the default sample rate set to on your sound device? One thing that might help is a screen-grab of your Audio Hardware settings in Preferences.

 

When this happens, the basic scenario is usually this: you make a recording at one sample rate, and for reasons we haven't yet established in your case, it plays back at a higher one. So for instance if you made a recording at a sample rate of 22.05ksamples/sec  and it played back by default at 44.1k, then the recording would appear only to last for half the time, and you'd get the chipmunk effect. Normally this doesn't happen, and Audition tells your sound device the correct playback rate - but that isn't guaranteed.

 

So to sort out exactly what's happened, we need rather more detail...

I will do my best to give you those details:

The Sample rate appears to be at 48000 hz also opening up the audio hardware it seems to be set to 48000 as well. I have uploaded a photo/screenshot as well. 

 

Ive done this before in the past couple days for about that amount of time and it had no issues. Just happened on the one I did today.

Did you ever fix this problem? I might be having similiar. My recording sounds higher than my actual voice. Not a clue why. I changed no settings at all since the last time I used Audition. Google is seeming useless.
