Question

Audition is adding a click at the beginning of a time-segment render

Recently, I've noticed an audible click at the beginning of audio tracks that I create in Audition and render out to MP3 or WAV files. At first I thought the click was being generated by my playout software, PlayIt CartWall, but on closer inspection I discovered that when I used the Export-Multitrack-Mixdown function in Audition to export     a time sequence from the multitrack timeline, Audition is adding the click at the beginning of the exported file.

How can I eliminate these clicks without having to edit each one manually?

I checked this behaviour carefully, and I have to say that Audition is exporting exactly what you are asking - but that may well be the root of the problem. The only way I could induce any sort of a click at the start of an exported file was to do the export from a time selection where the start (or combined starts of tracks) cause the exported file not to start with sample at a zero crossing. This can definitely be a bit of a problem with an MP3 encoder - they tend to misinterpret that somewhat, and what results can be a bit random.

But with a careful choice of starting point, I couldn't get any clicks out of the resulting export at all...

I am creating a simple voice file. I am marking the in point and out point of the segment I want to export, using in and out markers (and sometimes a razor cut at the in and out points). When I export the file and then open the exported file in the waveform editor, at first I am finding a clean edit, but if I scroll out the timeline to see very small increments of time, the beginning of the file suddenly shows a click waveform. I am able to highlight and delete these clicks, but I don't see any reason why they should be forming in the first place. The clicks are happening in WAV and MP3, and the razor cut at the in-out points doesn't make a difference.

Do you have the default Smooth Delete/Cut Boundaries and Smooth All Edit Boundaries options turned on in Preferences/Data?
