Audition not recording in waveform

Checked other posts, no joy.  I'm trying to record voice in mono via waveform, using Audient iD4, never previous probs but not used for a few months.  When I start new file and hit record, my green levels bar at the bottom shows that sound is being received as I speak, but no waveform appears on main screen and nothing is recorded.  All appears to be plugged in, input levels as usual, totally stuck and can't record.  Help!  PS  I'm very non-techie, just read books (audio narration) for charity, never music, so please speak to me as a dummy! Thanks, Kate

Does the cursor (Current Time Indicator) appear to move across the screen when you hit the Record button?

Thanks Steve.  Yes, it does.  And as it moves, as mentioned, the green bar showing the volume of my speech flickers up and down showing the variation in dB level as I speak into the mic.  It's just not actually recording anything.  Very peculiar!

Hello Rag and Bone - thanks for that.  Yes, I never use multi-track as I only do voice recordings normally.  But I did give it a go earlier, just to see if it was any different but no, still not recording.

Can you give us a screen shot of your audio hardware and channel mapping settings (in Audition preferences)?
