Frequency zoom in spectral editing...

My spectral editor used to default to 200-20k hertz with staggered zoom so I could see more detail in the lowest frequencies. I don't hear lower frequencies well, but my high frequency hearing is very good. I really need to be able to see the whole range but more detail in the low end. How do I set it back to that?

Things I'ved tried

  • Zooming out all the way takes it to about 0-21k
  • Zooming in 1 tick on my mouse wheel takes it to about 600-16k
  • Zooming in and clicking "Zoom Reset" takes me back to 0-21k
  • Reseting my workspace to the saved layout has no effect on the zoom level
  • Zooming in and setting 200 at the bottom, then hovering over the top and zooming out will only get me to 200-6k before it drops to only showing 0, 500, 1k on the low end, then topping at 11k the 3 digit indicators drop off entirely
  • In all cases, the lower frequencies are compressed into a much smaller space than they were yesterday

If you right-click on the frequency scale, you'll find that you get a number of options to alter what you can see in the spectral view. The one that will probably help you most (but you'll have to experiment a bit) is the Spectral Resolution setting - you will probably have to increase this somewhat to achieve what you're after. But at the same time, you can alter the Linear and Logarithmic aspects of what it's displaying as well, and these will interact with the resolution setting (which might be considered to be a bit of a pain, but whatever...) and let you customise the display to your liking.

It's worth remembering that there are a lot of places in Audition where right-clicking reveals more controls!

Thanks! Yes I knew about the right click menu (that's how I got to zoom reset), but I didn't know what those options did. I did try to experiment a bit with them, but individually they weren't very helpful. Your reply gave me enough information to combine the commands until I got it back where I like it! Thanks again!
