Is it possible to listen while recording?

I am very new to audition and have played around a little bit. But one thing I realized is that I didn't know how to listen to the track I had previously recorded while recording the new track. Is it possible (and if so, how?) to set audition up so that I can hear what was just recorded on the time line while recording new audio?

I want to record multiple guitar tracks and have them overlay, but without having direct playback to listen while playing the second part, I have no way to time them together without converting the first track to an mp3 file and playing it back from a separate device while playing the second part.

Any help would be appreciated.

To hear both the live guitar that you are recording and the tracks playing back from Audition whilst recording you need to have the Mix control somewhere near the middle to blend the Input and DAW signals in your headphones.

So, after looking at some tutorials, I realized the way I was recording was for individual tracks. I didn't know about using the main tracks window and arming a track for recording, now that I know about that, I have no audio issues at all

Hope my video on how to set the headphone to enable live listening while recording using a mic. You have to set in the sound setting advance setting select payback and select enable listening.

Yes, of course Audition can. Multitrack recording would be pretty useless it you couldn't.    But it is somewhat dependant on your audio interface as to how easy it is to set up and how well it works. What audio interface are you using? Decent external USB interfaces normally come with features to help you do this properly whilst built in soundcards may not make it easy. Can you hear the audio out of Audition OK when you playback tracks in the Multitrack when not recording?

More info in the help files. Go to the section on 'Record audio clips in Multitrack editor' and onwards.

I am using a steinburg MK ll for my audio interface. I can here it well in playback while not recording, but as soon as I hit the record button, I get nothing as far as in program audio goes
