No audio output from MOTU M4 with Audition

I am using Audition 14.4.3.4 on my Mac Mini 2018 running Mac OS Mojave, and I am not getting any audio output from my MOTU M4. Audio outputs from Audition tot he computer's on-board audio just fine, and other apps on this system output audio on the M4 without issue.

Where do I start in troubleshooting this? Thank you.

If everything else is working fine, then all you need to do is click on the RHS twirl-down at the top of the Master channel in Audition, (normally says default output on it) which determines where the output is routed to, and select the appropriate output, rather than the 'internal sound' one which would be the default, and where it's going now.

I wasn't aware of that setting at the top of the master channel in the Mixer, but unfortunately awareness isn't helping. I can select "[01S]M4: Out 1" under Stereo and still no output from the M4, audio or meters.

"Default" and "Default Output" under Stereo gives the same behavior. The only way to get any audio output at all is to go back into Audio Hardware Preferences and select the headphones/main computer out.

Any ideas?

The only thing that springs immediately to mind is your Mac's security settings. It's certainly possible to knobble inputs so they won't work - possibly the same thing can happen with outputs?
