noise removal question

So I have audio from a conference call that I need to clean up. The person is talking and the beeps from the conference call can be heard. The ask is to remove them so in the Sound Remover tool, I isolate the beeps, highlight only those areas and the preview sounds fine....no beeps and you can hear the person talking, but when I hit apply, the beeps and the person talking are gone.

Am I missing something here? Is the preview not meant to be used as a 'what you get' preview?

Thanks for any advice.

Jeff

You have to hit Apply at the bottom right of the Sound Remover panel for the Preview effect to be applied to the audio file. Then it needs to be saved, preferably using Save As so as not to overwrite the original audio file in case to need to go back and do it again.

As I said, that's what I did. It's when I apply the changes is when the voice and beeps both disappear. The preview result is different than the applied result.

Remember that what you see in the Preview screen is showing the complete file not just the bit that you are zoomed into in the Waveform view. I find that Preview tends to be rather disconcerting since it doesn't necessarily show you what you have done and takes time to redraw. Try turning off Preview and just work with the normal Waveform and Spectral Frequency view. Then you should be able to apply just the Sound Removal that you want and if it doesn't work as expected you can always Undo and try again.

Preview is really meant for trying out things like EQ, level changes and other simple effects rather than complex effects processing like Sound Removal and the Preview mode may not work as you expect it to, as you have discovered.
