Playhead doesn't return to start position if there's a selection.

Hi all.

I have the "Return playhead to start position on first stop" activated, and it works as expected during normal playback.

However, if I make a selection and play it, the playhead does not return to the starting point upon stopping. It stops at the end of the selection, but goes on its merry way AFTER the selection when you play again. If there's any time you want to repeat playback, it's when you have a selection!

Looping is not a suitable workaround, because in many cases you want to hear what an edit sounds like from start to stop.

Is this a Mac-specific bug, or does it happen on Windows too?

Thanks!

Can't believe this critical feature has been removed. I can't go back to 2017 because of the OS incompatibility, so I'm stuck not being able to listen to a selection over and over quickly.  Very painful. Audition has been great since the demise of Peak, but this is a deal-breaker for me. Doesn't sound like any real effort is being put into fixing this at Abode; time to start looking for a different editor i guess.  Bummer.

It was never purposely removed but got caught up as a bug in some of the code rewritten for CC2018. I don't know which version of Audition you are using but this bug has been fixed in the latest v.11.0.1.49 release. So make sure that your Audition CC2018 is up to date.

Really glad they fixed this. GJ, Audition team.

Now, PLEASE let us double-click to select between markers somehow!  This is a glaring and significant impediment to using Audition.

If you want to place the Playhead inside an already selected portion of the audio without deselecting it you have to click on the Timeline above the waveform. Then you can play from that point and the Playhead will return to that point when you Stop or the cursor reaches the end of the selection, provided that return Playhead to Start position on Stop is activated.

I heard that this same bug was in CC2017 and wasn't corrected. I haven't tried CC2017. I hope Adobe will fix this issue, since I use it a lot.

No it doesn't happen in Audition CC2017. It is new in CC2018.

I have the same issue, RyClark, and it is really slowing down my workflow! Has Adobe responded to this problem yet?

I create a time selection, press play to hear it, and I want the cursor to return to the start of the selection.

There are several more selectable options in Preferences/Playback. Turning some of those on or off or a combination may produce the type of playback that you would prefer.

Thanks. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be one that resolves this. Does it behave the same way on Windows?

Yes, after further experimentation, I can confirm that the same happens on a Windows machine. It seems that the Stop at end of Selection cancels the Play return position. However with the Stop at end of Selection option turned off obviously playback doesn't stop at the end of the selection and carries on. But at least Stop and Play again does move the Playhead back to the start of the selection where it started from previously. I wouldn't normally notice since I usually have Loop playback turned on.

So I am not really sure if this is a Bug or a Feature. But maybe it should be yet another option.
