Question

Temporary Files and Exporting

Greetings! I hope all is well with everyone.

I'm having some issues with getting Audition to successfully export an OMF. This has been a long-running issue, but each time I resolve a hardware limitation or configuration issue, a new one appears. I'm on a Windows 10 computer with an older processor, 16 GB of memory, a small boot SSD, and a couple larger HHD's. I've moved the disk cache and media cache to the 2 TB HDD (which is mostly empty). Audition is installed on one of the HDD drives, if that matters. I attached a screenshot of my cache settings, in case I woefully misunderstood anything.

My current problem is that during an OMF export, I still end up with enough temporary files on my C:\Users\Name\AppData\Adobe to fill up the drive, stopping the export and/or crashing Audition. I know having a 256 GB boot drive is asking for trouble at this point, but is there anyway that I can get Audition to just leave that drive alone, short of moving AppData somewhere else?

Thanks so much for your help!

In case anyone comes across this, I (tentatively) think what may have been happening is that Audition was somehow skippingt over my primary scratch drive, filling up my secondary scratch drive (which doesn't have a huge amount of space), and then moving on and filling up my boot drive. After getting rid of the secondary scratch drive, this problem stopped occurring (though I still can't get a successful OMF).

Thanks!

There are so many reasons why an OMF doesn't get created
For starters an OMF is limited to 2gb and even if your Audition session may be less than 2gb there are times when the same media file is being used multiple times (don't ask me why) so the more clips you have the larger your OMF may be.
So if you are trying to create an encapsulated OMF maybe try a reference one

Thank you for the suggestion! I appreciate it!

I'm almost always over the 2 GB limit, so I've been using referenced, but it's so edited there's about a ton of clips. I suspect some combination of creating all of those AIF's and my pokey cpu is just too much for Audition.

I saw you mention AATranslator on another thread, which looks great, and I will certainly keep it in mind when I can justify it!

Take care!

Adobe has the best OMF capability (2nd only to the creators - Avid) but OMF has many limitations which is why Avid created AAF (which is also junk).
Send me your session (message me for email address) and I will convert it for you and/or try and let you know the cause of the issue (if possible)
