Upgrading CEP 1.2 to Adobe Audition 1.0

OK - Time for a blast from the past! I was a Cool Edit Pro (v1.2) user who purchased the upgrade to Adobe Audition 1.0 when it came out. I needed to retire an old computer tonight and install it on a new one running Windows 10. CEP installed and runs fine under XP SP3 compatibility mode. But when I try to run the Audition update, after entering the serial number it tells me, "Setup could not find a qualifying product. You may install a qualifying version of the product and run setup again, or contact Adobe Customer Support."

Does anyone know why the Audition 1.0 update can't find CEP anymore? I'm retired, paid what was supposed to be a one-time license fee for what I have, and $20/month to migrate to v13 is a non-starter for hobby use. All I'm really after is the MP3 codec Audition 1.0 added. Any tips appreciated!

I'm pretty sure the verification servers would have been retired for CEP and Audition 1.0. It was announced a while back that there are no longer verification servers for 3.0 so I'd imagine 1.0 and before would be out of the picture.

I'd upgrade for the awesome Fraunhofer mp3 encoder or if you want a free and open source mp3 codec check out LAME.

The situation here is not about the verification server at all - that didn't exist at the time. In order to have a qualifying product, it has to be available to the Audition 1 installer whilst it's running. So a correctly installed CEP1.2 would do - as would, I believe, the installation CD - if you have it. Without one or other of these, you are certainly stuck.

SteveG, I have both. I installed CEP 1.2 from its installation CD, then attempted to upgrade to AA 1.0, also using its installation CD. Are you thinking CEP needs to actually be open and running before attempting the upgrade? The Audition installer has never required that on previous versions of Windows. If it found CEP in its default folder, it just continued with the update. Now, it just says it can't find it, and gives no option to direct it to where CEP might be found.

I'll certainly try running the update with CEP open, but that's never been required before.

IIRC - now I've thought about it a bit - I'm reasonably sure that it did need to be installed - and with the serial number. But since you have all of that, you should be okay as long as it actually installs...
