Hi there!
First of all, sorry if you read anything weird, English is not my primary language.

I am trying to teach Audio Post Production to "Photography and Video" students. I profesionally work with Avid Protools for years, but they only have the Adobe Suite in the school, so we only have Audition to do Sound Post work right now.
I am trying to replicate the "Location Recording--Premiere--Protools" workflow as much as I can, for example, we set up Protools shortcuts in Audion. But I am finding significant differences with Audition Workflow and I'm struggling to find answers using Adobe's official help (https://helpx.adobe.com/audition/user-guide.html)

So, here's the thing so far:
They recorded a 1 person interview using 1 camera and two microphones. Boom mic. went into Track 1 and Lavalier mic. went into Track 2 of the Zoom H6 recorder.

  1. They imported/sync everything in Adobe Premiere. So they have: Scratch Audio from camera (stereo), Boom mic and Lavalier Mic.
  2. They exported a reference Video with embedded Timecode.
  3. They exported an OMF File with embedded files into it.
  4. In Protools, I just create a proper multitrack session and import there the .omf file. But in Audition, if I create a multitrack session (.sesx) with the desired settings (WAV, 48kHz, 24bit) it does not matter, because when I import the .omf file it just creates a new multitrack session (.omf) (with 32 bit depth).
So I really need to understand the difference between a Multitrack session with the .sesx extension and a Multitrack session with the .omf extension. Is it better to just import an .omf and try to change the session settings, or should I try to copy all the OMF audio files into a properlly set Multitrack session?

Also, I'd love to hear what plugins you recommend! We already inserted in the Master Track a Lodness Meter with a R128 European Loudness parameters (to aim for -23LUFS in the Mix).

And basically, I'd love to hear from Protools users that ever have to use Audition. How did you do it? I understand that there will be limitations and differences. But I really want the students to learn the process as similar to Protools, because is the industry standard around. I am trying to teach them a professional Workflow, from Pre-Production to Post-Production.

By the way, we also discovered that Audition CAN'T import AAF files yet.

Thanks a lot! 8)

Please, feel free to write me a PM.

As far as Premiere and Audition are concerned, you have to remember that they are integrated already - that's the purpose of the 'Edit in Audition' option in Premiere. This effectively automates the round trip, so you can process tracks in Audition and have them automatically sent back to Premiere when you're done. Using this option automatically sets Audition up correctly, and bypasses any need for using any transfer protocol at all.

As far as the AAF thing is concerned, you might want to read this thread. Especially the part of it written by SuiteSpot, who has a solution to the problem.
