Adobe Bridge 2022 Continous Crashing Photo Downloader on Mac OS 12.01 (Monterey)

I am using Adobe Bridge 2022 (version 12.0.0. 234) on my iMac with Mac OS 12.01.

I have tried many times to download pictures from my SD card, but Photo Downloader continues to crash and making up crash reports. Now I can't even repeat opening Photo Downloader anymore to show the fault message I receive.

I use Photo Downloader mainly to rename my downloaded files.

Please help me what I can do to solve this problem.

Adobe charges a hefty amount for an annual subscription for which I may expect a perfect software without such nasty problems.

The mentioned issue is fixed in the latest patch release #13.0.1.583. Please install and confirm if that fixes the issue.

Hi Rahul,

It has been some time since I have been here because there was a period Photo Downloader did actually work as it should.

With macOS Ventura 13.2.1 and Adobe Bridge 2023 Version 13.0.2.636 history repeats itself again and Photo Downloader does not recognize memory cards inserted in my iMac. Why can't Adobe engineer expensive software without continous bugs; even the same bugs as before in previous releases? Very annoying and unprofessional!

We have released Adobe Bridge Beta (13.0.3.686). This update includes the fix for this issue. To see the list of all fixed issues in this Beta release, click here

Please update or install Bridge Beta via the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

Steps to install/update

Install: Go to the Creative Cloud desktop app and select Beta apps in the left sidebar of the Apps panel. Then select install for your beta app.

Update: Go to the Creative Cloud desktop app, click on Update in the left sidebar of the Apps panel and Check for updates. Then click update for your beta app.

Let us know if this Beta release resolves the problem for those affected, and share your feedback.

I have installed Adobe Bridge Beta (13.0.3.686) and indeed Photo Downloader now reacts on an inserted SD-Card.

Also downloading and filename change works again.

However....., the name of the sub directory (sub maps) acts strange: a cryptic series of characters is first displayed and after a while the correct date appears under the subdirectory.

Also after editing the meta data template, some changes i.e. copyright information can not be saved and thus are not entered to the downloaded pictures.

So not ideal yet, but I hope it will keep functioning as it should, even after software updates of both Adobe and Apple macOS.

The funny thing about this is that I've used PD since it arrived in v. 1 of Bridge. The only problem I've ever had was briefly when I was getting double or triple copies of my images. This was resolved for the short term by always using the Advanced view of PD and completely resolved on the next release.

As one of the "helpers" in this forum, I've seen many many folks who've had this issue. I know they are not alone. I also know that PD could be much more than it is but for basic operations, it does satisfy my needs, and I use it regularly.

I wish I could help, but I've never seen an "ah, here's the answer," and I've never had to resolve issues for my use; it just works.

For those with issues like Milowitch, I wish I could help you, but I am at a loss like everyone else here. So while we wait for "the answer," the best I can suggest is that you move the files from the card to your computer via the Finder or Explorer.

One thing I do notice is the USB-C video adaptor. A Thunderbolt adaptor is FAR more likely to be stable.

A kernel memory error is not caused by an application program, period. This is probably some sort of driver issue. Try running with external devices unpluggd- just keyboard and mouse and HDMI display connection. NOTHING else. See if it crashes.

Same problem with OS12.4. So far, it actually does download, then crashes. Also downloader shows me the oldest photos first, which it never did before.

It may be early days, but I've just upgraded to Bridge 2023 (v13.0.0.562). I note that "Download from device" is no longer an option in the File menu, and that "Get Photos from Camera" does now work. Also, the Advanced dialogue for Photo Downloader is working again and retains settings. (Using Mac OS 12.6)

I've had this problem for a long time and it seems there should be a resolution out there (Adobe?). I mean, why have the photo downloader if it doesn't work?

I've been using PD since it first came out, and with a short problem with an earlier version that gave me copies of images, I've had no issues with it. Plus, if I used the Advanced Mode, I would have no problems.

I'm currently on Monterey but have had no problems with Big Sur either.

Why does this conflict show up? There are many possibilities; it could be a bad installation, conflicting software, or needed software maintenance on your computer; the list is very long.

Does PD have issues? Yes. Can it work? Yes. Would I like something better with some additional features? Yes. Do I use it now? Yes, every time.

If you're interested, I can relate how I do my maintenance on my Mac. I just got a Mac Studio, but up till this, I had a 5K iMac circa 2015. Please note, I cannot promise this will solve all your issues, but I've not had any.

I am having issues with Photo Downloader (2022 - Bridge Version 12.0.1.246). It recognises my devices but when I click 'get media' it goes straight to the words 'downloading 3 of __ photos' and doesn't download anything. I tried buying a new CF card reader thinking it would be fixed but nope.

This was happening to me as well in December (2021). My computer would freeze, the trackpad would not work (could not even click) and then it would shut down. Occiasionally a pattern would appear on my screen. I took my computer to the apple store, they wiped my computer and re-installed the software to the previous update. I just updaetd to OS 12.2 last week and now it is happening again. It seems to be exclusively connected to when Bridge is open. Right now its happening virtually every 10 minutes. My computer is less than a year old (bought a refurbished MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2019, 8 months ago). So either it seems I am supposed to not use bridge– not do my work, or not update my computer– so restart and re-install and operate on an old software system until.... when??

Bridge keeps crashing for me too. I open it and try to do one thing and it crashes. Very frustrating.

Since updating to MacOS 12.1 Bridge seems to be more stable. However, Photo Downloader can still not be activated.

It is good that software engineers do not design air planes!😏

I recommend not using the Photo Downloader, just use Image Capture or the Finder to copy files to your drive.

Like Miel, I use Photo Downloader because it gives a lot more options when importing photos. I use it to convert them to dng, rename the photos, make a duplicate on a separate drive. You can have presets saved to do all of that, so it is great when it "worked". Unfortunatly, I have the same issues.

What used to take a few minutes with Photo Downloader now takes a lot longer using Image Capture and then Bridge to rename and convert to DNG.
